@tee Jay. If you'd like to go work in the U.S. lots more opportunity there depending your field. With NAFTA the TN Visa is the most likely one to use. But hobbying if they ask you for your phone number can they see your history? If so, that could be an issue to getting said work visa.

How to protect yourself? Don't be a dick on SM. That was easy.

Here is the thing about what you said. ”if you would LIKE.....”

That is the key. It is want vrs need. You don't need to go to the US. You may not like your other options but you don't Need to go state side.

I think it is fair. I use SM screening all the time. Even for new clients at my mainstream job. Why should a country be any different?

And as for seeing your phone history, no. I don't believe they can. They use it to search the internet for your number against Google. Not calling your local phone carrier for a list of numbers you have called over the last 10 years.

I'm not on FaceBook, Twitter, InstaGram, LinkedIn nor nuthin'. Guess I'll never qualify for a visa then.

Ooops! Forgot my long dormant entry in the IMDB. Does that count?

wrong question - why would you want to go to the US or why would you want to go to the US while that moron is in office.

To get away from the moron WE have in office....

I would trade Trudeau for Trump any day of the week

Heck even Ford (ON) is more of a moron than both of them.... dark times living in ON these days

It doesn't require you have social media, only requires you handle over info for any social media you do have.
Though it may be suspicious if you don't list any, as they may automatically assume you are hiding it.

I'm in the same boat btw. I don't use any of the big social media platforms for personal use.

Though I have no plans to obtain a U.S. visa, still, my question is, what happens if they find I`m a member of this board? Do to their draconian federal laws regarding prostitution, will that mean I`ll be automatically denied a visa?

@hammermill. The answer to your question is simple:
- larger job market therefore more opportunities if you're willing to work hard. Unlike here where many well paid job sectors are unionized and they protect the weak and lazy. If you're a person with degrees in useful areas for the evonomy (i.e. STEM, Finance, medicine) there is ample opportunity down there with more pay and far less taxes.
- if you are a foreigner down there they look at whether you can do the job not if you have candian or American experience. That is such a farce here esp. for science fields. Engineering math is math the world over just not in Canada lol. Again the dumb, weak, and lazy like to protect their jobs here and minimize competition.
- better weather in more places than here.

The only real downside to the U.S. as a temporary worker on a work visa is the healthcare. Yet, if you have a good job you get insurance through them and you're ok. I have a friend in the USA now that has an amazing background and the two jobs he has gotten down there he would never get here not because he can't but because the powers that be dont want to let go of the tit. Look for an example how much teachers in this province are crying because now they'll have to work harder
- people complain about the violence in the USA. Well big Canadian cities are not that much better. Toronto is turning into the Bronx every day a knifing or city. In the USA if you have a good job you can live in a good area and away from the ghettos.

The biggest issue now is with the current climate actually landing a US job offer as a foreigner. That involves a little bit of luck.

One more downside to USA I forgot to mention. I'll agree the university education is expensive. If that's the case study here or send your kids here and then they can go back to USA for work.

Finally, if violence is an issue guess what you can get a gun down there with less hassle than here. A few days ago some punk pulled a gun at some people at Yonge and St Clair area. Guess what in the USA you can return fire instead of getting killed here or the police not doing a thing cause they're likely over worked and prob care less now, at least in Toronto. I'm not sure about other big cities.

Given the wide range of discretion allowed to Us Customs and Immigration agents I think it's best to assume nothing automatically entitles you to enter. That's my thinking the couple of occasions a year when I cross to visit family. Leave it at home if you're at all in doubt that it'll pass.

If you're someone who needs a visa, apply for it here at the Consulate, not at the border.

To those that have such disdain for Canada plus feel free to leave. But as that moron has said the US is full, there’s more room, go back from where you came.

Probably, considering people get turned away for admitting to pot use even though marijuana is now legal in Canada. Purchasing sexual services is an illegal act in both Canada and the USA, so you'd probably be turning right around and heading home.

Honestly, though. I travel several times a year to the USA for work and have gone dozens of times in my life. I've never had much issue or even any prodding into my personal life, not now, not before Trump.

Stay confident, be pleasant, answer questions succinctly, have a clear reason for going to the USA, know where you're staying... and you'll be fine in my experience.

@hammermill. I guess you're one of those unionized workers I mentioned. Sorry if the truth hurts. Lol

Don't worry I keep playing the lotto and sending out CVW if I hit a lotto I'm out. Don't have to tell me twice.
