Hi Guys and girls,
I made a Toronto website that displays sales, coupons and promotions from stores in Toronto. I'm not making any money off this, so I'm sorry in advance for the blatant self-advertising.

I'm just looking for general comments and/or suggestions from a diverse group - that would be you guys....the site is http://www.Sales.TO

If anyone know of business affiliations or the like to help me grow the site, I'd love to hear from you.

Cheers,

68.5...

Do you really want honesty?

Because your site looks like a popup, or like so many other ads that are trying to grab our attention........but fail.

You need a hook that will make me want to look further than what you have.

WHATS GOING TO MAKE MY CLICK ON ANY OF THE LINKS YOU PROVIDE 68.5?

I do not know anything about this business, but i would like to see more creativity than what i am seeing now. How does one do that? Good luck 'cause i have no idea. Thats how i feel...others. Cheers --- Kev

Is this site an xhtml project for school? The links are generic and boring. Get a better background...change the font, and style of text...use more interesting borders...give a site intro to get our attention.

You're trying to do too broad a site to squeeze on one page. Buying and selling anything in Toronto? Seems to broad.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies so far...
BBlack - No this isn't a school project
Kev - a popup? Never heard that before, but I'll keep it in mind

If your comments are any indication then it seems what I'm doing wrong (among other things) is not conveying what the site is for - it's stores themselves that are posting sales and promotions (not me).

I'll try to spice it up a bit - it's a little dry for a reason - trying to be a bit like Google so everyone can use it.

68.5 did u design it? if so u have used css which is good but u should lean away from the tables an go with the div tag and set everything up in css placement everything. That way when u make it dynamic or i am assuming u will want it to be, it will be easier to change or fix and update. Plus css and xhtml are the standard and are compliant which will help the search engines with finding you and listing you.
Did you know that 80% of all successful e commerce web sites are laid out exactly like amazon and the rest are either very specialized or bankrupt.
Just my two cents :p

Hello 68.5

68.5 This is not a piece of junk, it is just usual online directory. And it is not to bad, but what is your goal if you are not making money, for what is it?

If you want a successful project you have to spend money and on the other hand earn them.

Actually it's up to you.

Regards,
Peter

68.5,

You've got an excellent site... "Keep it simple stupid"... That's
the key. No one has time for convoluted or round about websites. Simple and straight to the point. If your site ends up
doing what it's supposed to do, then all the eye candy and such don't matter. Right now, I'm looking for a deal on a cell phone...
I could imagine going to your site, exactly the way it is, and doing
a simple search for cell phones... Then, like google... I get back all kinds of results exclusive to Toronto. Man, that would be awesome!. Perhaps in time, you can develop a portal site i.e.. (Sales.ca) or, alternate sites that offer the same service to other
regions in Ontario or Canada (THINK BIG). Not to mention, (THINK MONEY)... I think you've got a sleeping giant... Don't let every negative comment discourage or upset you... It's the yin yang of how things work. You can't find or appreciate the good, without seeing or experiencing the bad. However, to make it short... STAY THE COURSE AND KEEP IT SIMPLE. The money,
will and should come in time... All you really need now is, stores offering deals to fill those categories and site exposure through the media and such once that's done... i.e. Radio CFRB
etc... Once your site is actually functional and helpful to the
people... It will snow ball (exponentially), on its own.... I'm sure.

That's my 2 3/4 cents... Good Luck, Cheers! & Season's Greetings!
