I haven’t looked at it yet. I’m not particularly interested in the platform but nonetheless am pleased that it will (hopefully) lead to Twitter’s bankruptcy.

Also, when Donald Trump Jr opened a Threads account he was furious after learning that his account was immediately tagged with a warning label stating that this user has a history of spreading disinformation about covid, election denialism, etc. Thus, so far I am cautiously optimistic even tho that douchebag, Zuckerburg, owns the platform.

But here is the downside. If you want Threads you have to be on Instagram too. So now I gotta sign up on TWO social media apps if I wanna be on Threads lol.
This is what is stopping me. I don’t know if the terms are still there but at one point when you signed up for Instagram you gave up your right to any photos or materials you uploaded and all could be used by the company or companies it sold too. So your pic could be used in some SM ad campaign. I didn’t like that so I didn’t sign up.

Now having said that, I don’t believe that to be the policy anymore but it left a sour taste in my mouth. It was the same with that photo site Flickr.

No real point unless Twitter, Reddit, and others become depopulated. You get the same 'stuff' no matter which platform, the interfaces can be customized, I'm uncertain what specific value add threads would have over others.

"Threads" does not have a registration, uses Instagram registration and verification.
I registered on Instagram just to use Threads. I used my real email but not my real name, I was able to get in and browse, however the next morning I was already banned (I did not post anything), because I did not use my real name. Now, I have to dispute the banning and give them(Fucking Facebook) my phone number to get in.

. Speaking as someone that has hundreds of credits/covers in magazines. I would never, ever sign up for anything that tried to claim copyright in any way shape or form.

. It’s just so stupid, and ultimately hurts people that do professionally provide content to legit media and there is always the potential someone could see that photo that even while not professional quality. Would pay for you for the rights to use it.. Happens a lot.

why pay for something when suckers are happy to hand it over….and or “for credit”.

In some ways I don’t blame them. Even legit newspapers, news sites/services are always asking for people to submit photos. Advertising dollars aren’t what they used to be. But last I checked “credit” doesn’t put a single slice of bread on the table, nor pay the gas used getting that photo or so much else.

The bigger problem though Is honestly “you”, the public. So many people just rip stuff. Thinking if it’s on the net, it’s “fair use”.

Do you work for free?
/rant over :)

Sooooo many things I might say…
.”oh, you have an expensive camera, it must take great pictures” reply…Thanks for dinner it was delish. You must have an expensive stove..

Why do you charge so much. Well that one lens there cost a few grand. See how many are in my bag, how many strobes…Know what I left behind at home?….Any idea how many hours it took to get to this level?

Oh, yeah. Sorry. But I think I’ll pay so and so $200 because they are advertising as a professional. :)

Don’t have a problem with the latter. Everyone has to start somewhere. But…..and this happens all the time with wedding photography. If unhappy with end product. Don’t rip the photographer..

With respect to ripping, I finally just said “screw it”. Reduced file size as far as I could. Anyone ripping for their own gain, couldn’t use it as a postage stamp. Didn’t help with “promotion” but to a large degree it worked.

Ultimately that is exactly what I did. Irony? Anyone that ever emailed me with a reasonable explanation for why they wanted to use..
Teacher in Norway
Artist in Seattle that wanted to use one. for their own take. He was so stressed over that. My reply. By the time you’re done, it’s going to be your work. You just want it for reference.
Many more.

Sure, go ahead.

Need to have an iPhone, I thought?
Automatically takes your instagram account.
Can't use a desktop.

Seems pretty fucked.
Zuckerberg is evil and Meta is terrible.

I think it's great.

I think it was a big mistake for Elon Musk to make twitter "private ".

Twitter used to be all about free speech and being able to read news , interesting facts and even peoples thoughts.

I have not used twitter in a while because I decided years ago to delete all of my social media but with the new changes being made to facebook, twitter and even instagram ; i'd have to say it was the best decision I ever made.

If I ever decide to come back to social media , I would definitely try threads.

I still can't beleive how badly we have been suckered into giving everything to Facebook monster.

I have an old facebook account that I keep for soecu=ial sign ins or somethings but otherwise never got into the Facebook universe because I don't want to give them my mind! I deleted WhatsApp when Facebook took it over and yo had to agree to give it access to yyour contacts etc etc. Fuck them. And never mind the hackers threat...

Threads collects so much sensitive information it's a 'hacker's dream,' experts say

TORONTO -
It knows when you've been online shopping, the last time you worked out and whether you've been lurking on your ex's profile.

Meta's new social media platform Threads is gobbling up massive amounts of sensitive data on its 100 million users and counting.

The specificity and quantity of information the text and multimedia platform can access poses a risk to most users, if it falls into the wrong hands or is used to target them, tech experts agree.

"This is a hacker's dream," said Claudette McGowan, a longtime banking executive who founded Protexxa, a Toronto-based platform that uses artificial intelligence to rapidly identify and resolve cyber issues for employees.

"The more data you have sitting in a certain position (or) spot is going to get people really, really excited about getting access to it and being very creative about it."

Threads falls under Meta's wider privacy policy that covers its other social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram. That policy details how Meta captures everything from the information you give it when you sign up for accounts, to what you click on or like, who you befriend online and what kind of phone, computer or tablet you use to access its products.

It also keeps tabs on what you're doing on your device, like whether the app is in the foreground or if your mouse is moving, messages you send and receive and details on purchases you make, including credit card information.

Threads also has its own supplemental privacy policy, which says "we collect information about your activity on Threads, including the content you create, the types of content you view or interact with and how you interact with it, metadata about your content, the Threads features you use and how you use them, the hashtags you use, and the time, frequency, and duration of your activities on Threads."
