I was thinking about picking up an iMac early in the new year, and a buddy of mine told me to wait because a new one may be released in early 2012.

I went to one of those Mac rumors websites and they actually have a "Do Not Buy" reco on this product in anticipation of a new release.

I'm not looking to start another pointless apple vs. pc debate on TERB; Just want some intelligence on market & product possibilities.

I think you're referring to the Buyers Guide at Mac Rumors.

It's usually pretty spot on. I'd wait as Intel will be releasing a new chipset in Q1 2012 called Ivy Bridge.

It's a bump up from the current chipset called Sandy Bridge but offers better performance and lower power consumption. Both very good things.

Historically, Apple's price points remain the same or decrease slightly. I'd kick myself if I bought today and found I could get a more powerful iMac for the same price 3 months from now.

Wait for the new iMac to get released and then buy the older one for even cheaper.

What he said.
I'd feel exactly the same if a more powerful one came out shortly after I bought one....;)

iMacs take your photo on it's own folks much like how the iphone does when that crappy FaceTime feature is on. So put a piece of tape over the camera when not using it.

That's another reason to wait, hold it out a bit.
