Though not exactly what you asked for, I can tell you a garage to avoid. PaulDan's Auto. Don't remember the address, but the number is (905)579-4281. Someone recommended him to me because he was cheap. He is. You also get what you pay for. Your car start to get worked on at least a week after you send it in. Expect another week to two months for him to fix it. And expect to return it after he's done.
Hope this is at least somewhat helpful. I'll ask my friends and see if they can recommend anyone.

Could be fuel pump or simply a dirty gas filter... Also could be an ecm as redriver mentioned.. the year and make would also be helpfull as he mentioned..

95% chance it is the fuel pump........

And although this doesn't work all the time...the simplest way to check is to
shake the van and tap the fuel tank a few times with a rubber mallet........this will cause some movement and vibration and most likely......just enough to turn her over!!

But if it starts....you still need a fuel pump!!!!!!

I can recommend, without reservation, Suburban Motors in Ajax. (just south of Harwood & #2). 905-683-3820.

Honest, fair, and will fit you in. They've been there over 30 years. Bonus: Timmy's next door while you wait for the work to be completed!

Um, under the circumstances though, please don't say I sent you!

(wink)

Kris the folks are on the right train of thought with the fuel system.

You are pretty much guaranteed it is not electrical (starter, altenator or battery) by the fact that it turns over. The clue to a possible fuel system problem is the fact that it will start. In other words the electrical is doing its job, but there isn't anything to ignite, ie fuel.

There are some other possibilities as was eluded to with the ECM (Computer and other "brains" within the engine management system). I would go with the fuel system first.

What sort of mileage is on the van? Has there been any significant repairs in say the last 2 or three years? Specifically in the engine, not brakes or frontend type jobs.

Just to be on the safe side and I am not trying to be a smart ass, but do you have gas in the tank?

I can also recommend Suburban, good guys there, Also in Oshawa Franks on Valencia, down by the motors

Being that it is a 95, it could very well be the fuel pump or the gas filter has clogged up and will not allow gas to pass through.... These are common issue's with vehicals of this age!

I have tried Bridlewood Automotive on Dundas, a bit west of Thickson. Joe is an honest and straightforward mechanic. He saved me over $200, compared to other shops, once on a simple repair when others would have taken me to the cleaners.

I once had the high tension ignition go on me, with those symptoms. No spark, no go.

I had a 95 vehicle with the same symptoms. Thought at first it was the fuel pump (expensive) but garage was able to determine failed relays as the reason why the fuel pump wouldn't work ($20 parts). Key was the diagnosis without spending a lot of time ($$).
Should be easy to tell if the fuel pump's not working (if it's working, you can hear it running when you first turn the key) and if that's the case, a mechanic is able to determine if relays are the problem or if you need a new fuel pump.
Bottom line - a good garage/mechanic makes all the difference.

thank you alll....

I have had my truck towed but at least I can have them look in places that may be cheap first...

I just replaced the fuel pump and filter in November so it might be as simple as a sensor.... I HOPE.... keeping fingers crossed...

Thanks again for all your help guys....

I will keep you posted on how this garage panned out... smiles...

If it only does this when it's wet and it eventually starts after you crank it long enough, it could be something as simple as a plug wire.
