Ever since my Commodore 64,I have had no use for anything other than a desktop.
Now I find myself in need of something portable, but strictly for home use.
My pc is in the basement, but I want to have internet access when I am upstairs in the living room, bedroom,on the throne, etc.
I assume I need a wireless router for the connection, but after that,I am at a loss.
Laptop,netbook,playbook,notebook........wtf?
I need at least a 15.6 inch monitor,but no use for a cd/dvd drive/writer.
It's primary use(99%)is for playing on PokerStars.com site.
So,as basic as possible would be fine.
Cheap is a good price.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

A 15.6 inch screen size requirement eliminates the PlayBook, iPad and other netpads, as well as netbook computers.

Which leaves you, from your suggested list with laptops and notebooks, which we'll treat as interchangeable terms (some use the terms to mean slightly different things; we won't).

You can find inexpensive laptops from some refurb stores (eg ottawalaptops.com), or you can look at Dell, HP, and Apple laptops.

That is a basic standard laptop size screen that will come with a dvd drive and they are cheap today.
You can find a good one for ~$400 today that is better than the one I paid $600 for 3 yrs ago.

Thanks Anynym & WoodPeckr,
Since I am cost conscious, someone had told me that you can get a laptop w/o a dvd drive(since I won't need it)but they were uncertain if it came in a 15.6 in.,or larger, screen.
It sounds like you both would know if there was something out there like that,so I will assume that it was not,or is now, available in the marketplace.
Thanks again!
Happy New Year!

Just go to
Best buy or other store or other stores and see what do they have. Lots of laptop in the $500 $800 range. If you have Internet with Rogers or bell just ask them to exchange the modem to a wireless one. Easy to install and good range.
