So I commited myself to the company family skating party on family day and need to buy ice skates. I am embarassed to say that I still have my old pair of metal blade skates. Any suggestions on where I can buy a decent pair that is moderately priced. FYI, I can't remember the last time I actually went skating, so this may be a one time affair or the beginning of a new "hobby".

thanks

The technology in skates, like everything else, has changed considerably over the years. For a moderately priced pair, yet still decent quality, you'd probably do OK at SportChek or National.
I think you may be pleasantly surprised at how "good" a skate you can get for a decent price considering your intended casual use.

If you want an affordable pair of skates for just a one time skate, Play it Again Sports is a good place to buy used skates that are moderately priced. Also, Sportsmart/SportsChek have affordable new skates. You can pay a $100 for a pair of skates there. Possibley National Sports may have some deals, depending what you want to spend.

The place that is having the skating party may actually rent skates as some places do.

Your first choice should be Play it Again Sports. You'll likely find something decent there. You may have to visit a couple different locations but you should find something that fits.

They usually have a good selection, as many people buy them new but only use them a couple times so they trade them in.

You may look silly, but wearing a helmet isn't a bad idea, especially if you haven't been skating in a while. Smacking your head on the ice in a fall can lead to a whole lot of trouble.

I'd go to play it agin and get a decent pair of used skates. Let them size you first so that you get fitted with a pair that is the right size. Try on several different makes as they all fit differently and you want to be comfortable.

I find them way over priced for used equipment. Rip off!!!
