How is this a sport?

I thought ESPN was a sport and I guess, entertainment channel. But, why are they showing the spelling bee?

Ok, it seems pretty good; and I realize to some it's a big deal. But, on a sports channel? Does anyone else find this odd?

SPELLBOUND!

There was a SPELLBOUND! documentary that raised spelling bee ratings. Instant drama, ooohs and aaaahs. The audience embarassed that it itself can't even spell these words.
For the instant gratification North American audience, it sure beats Italian Series A soccer.
