October 22, 2014. Who can forget that awful day when our democracy was attacked by a terrorist.

  1. "A series of shootings occurred on October 22, 2014, at Parliament Hill in Ottawa. At the Canadian National War Memorial, Michael Zehaf-Bibeau fatally shot Corporal Nathan Cirillo, a Canadian soldier on ceremonial sentry duty. Wikipedia"

A year later, we have a new Prime Minister and a new Parliament but are we any safer?

While Cirillo's death was indeed a tragedy, and I felt drawn back to Hamilton to attend his funeral procession, and I will never want to cease being vigilant, I am, from a personal point of view, more concerned about that mole of mine getting me than any whacko terrorist.

There is a service of remembrance in Hamilton tonight run by his regiment, The Argylls.

You beat me to it... I was going to post a similar tribute tomorrow...

Nathan was a distant relative of mine. Remembrance day has forever taken on a whole new meaning for me as a result of this tragedy.

I was in Christ's Church Cathedral with the rest of our family, and heads of state, including our outgoing PM, and our new PM Elect... A very surreal experience i will never forget for the rest of my years. Although Harper gave a very touching tribute, I doubt either of them have given more than a passing thought since. Myself, I was reminiscing about this very thing last week during Thanksgiving when we had occasion to meet some of the other members of our family.

May he rest in peace, and although he will likely see this, I've told him several times in person,

"Marcus, your dad was a true hero! Never forget that buddy!"

I prefer the term gutless coward.
Agreed.

I'd love to see these "gutless cowards" take on the military. If you want to fight, fine, fight. But get in a uniform, declare war, and here we go.

You can never forget any of our fallen soldiers. They paid the ultimate price so that we can be safe. RIP Nathan.
