So, it's time for me to get a flat screen television. So, like anything else that I purchase that I consider to be a large purchase, I do my research. I looked at everything from Plasma's to LCD to LED. I watch tv in a low light condition, so a plasma would make sense. I visit costco, see a LED tv sitting in front of a line up of their best plasma's and the LED is like a bright star. So I then re-thought the plasma.
I go to Best Buy to get their opinion against what I already found out through my online research. Once again, it's a personal opinion. But I do find out one interesting thing from the sales guy - when you buy a television, to get the best picture you have to have the tv calibrated. So then of course, the guy is telling me that to get it calibrated, they recommend professional calibration that ranges in price from $300-$1500. The cost of a second television. I couldn't believe it! What a rip off, you buy a tv then to have the television show a decent picture you have to pay another large amount.
I went back to my research online and discovered that LG makes a LED that will walk you through a calibration that is built into the television. Turns out, you get a better deal with the television too because most LED's are selling for over a thousand bucks right now and the LG is under a thousand. I find the LG tv at Walmart, of all places, for $798 :: Here is the Link
I bring it home, I'm scared lol, did I make the right decision?
I have to tell you, I am so very impressed. The calibration was easy, it walks you through a few pictures and color blocks, you choose which is best and whamm! you got a perfect, clear and bright picture. It's just amazing. Now when I walk into a Best Buy and see people walking out with a new television that was on sale, looked good on the display, I feel bad for them because I know that they are thinking they will get a decent picture when they get home and they probably won't.
