My Phone Just Died! Help Please!

Hello all,

I have to replace my phone. I'm still attached to a contract that I do not wish to renew, so buying a new phone from my provider doesn't seem to make a lot of sense (or is this the best option?).

I have no idea how to go about this! Are there places on the internet where I can buy phones that aren't attached to one particular company?

Any advice would be appreciated!

You can purchase a cell phone that is unlocked to GSM carriers in a mall or on e-bay. (Provided that you are on Rogers, Fido...):) All you have to do is get a new SIM card, pop that in and TA DAA! ^_^ New cellphone.

You can also shop on Craiglist for reduced price cell phones (for all carriers) but beware: make sure that the person that you're purchasing the phone from goes with you for the activation. That way it ensures that it hasn't been blacklisted (due to theft or loss).

Just get something cheap that will last you until the end of your contract.

Who is your carrier?

I am on Telus. Is this an option for me?
It's an option for you. :) Search on CL and you'll find some phones. I wish that my old telus phone worked - I'd give it to you since I'm not using it at the moment.

All that you have to do is (provided that it's not a blackberry that you're getting) is provide the ESN number to a Customer service representative or activate it on mytelusmobility. (It's less expensive online. If you mention to the CSR that you lost your phone, they may wave the activation fee for you.)

Good luck! ^_^

Here are your options:

- Buy a new phone from your phone SP.

- Buy an unlocked phone from Future shop or Best Buy and place your SIM card into it. They are as cheap as $69 and it comes with a SIM card and $10 of airtime. They usualy come in a Pay As you go Package.

You have to finish the contract with your old phone SP, it is so expensive to try to get out. Do not fall for the old trick of getting a new phone for a new contract of 3 years. All service providers will give you a fre phone with a contract of 3 years.

a friend of mine lost their phone and looked on kijiji.ca for a replacement phone. some people have contracts attached but you can find people just looking to cell phones straight out probably for your carrier too.

you can try and call telus and ask them what other options they have for purchasing phones straight out, maybe they know of other sites.

you can also check out the non GSM classifieds section at howardforums.com . I've picked up phones through that site before.
