My Car Lease is up, Need a replacement, Suggestion?

My lease is currently about $300/month for 48 months ...I will return it this month. Now, I am thinking what can I buy as a replacement that is about the same??? I am sorry American Car fans, although I'd like to support the economy and job loses I am thinking about a Japanese (Honda/Toyota) or German (VW) cars. Suggestions? Looking for a 4 door sedan that is good on mileage (no puns here folks) and durable (as little maintenance as possible) with no Sec Deposit/Down Payment.

I went to the Honda website, they quoted a Civic 4dr Sport as $385/month for 48months, $0 down just the Frieght/PDI/taxes ($2000+ due on delivery). Kinda expensive for a Civic no?

I am not a HONDA/ TOYOTA fan or anything but I think the Honda Civics or the ACcords are quite good. It does get better on the gas after a while ..

Go in person and give your offer.

If you are looking in that price range, you might want to try the new MAZDA 3 AND 6

The mazda 3 is sweet .. The options it has are great. and its responsive too i think (i have not drive 1 ) Howver, its nice .. for that price range.

Dont go for the Toyota Corolla.

Let me know how it works out . All the best

They are all trying very hard to get your business right now.
If you can afford to pay cash, you can cut one hell of a deal. If you're looking to lease, play hardball when you negotiate.
I agree with c n k as I'm also a Mazda fan. Had a few and have had very few problems. And yes, the new 3 and 6 are both nice.

Unfortunately, this thinking is part of why we are in the pickle we're in. Shop for the stuff your neighbours build...

And as was pointed out, that can include some Toyotas and Hondas....

My recent experience is that manufacturers do not want to take the risk on lease residual values. As a result, there are better deals on financing than leasing, ie. you own the car.

So I would look at high reliability cars with 0% financing stretched out or 4-5 years. Even if you have to sell, you pay off the remainder of the loan and have high resale value.

Good luck

I had a Mazda 3. Very responsive standard transmission and the new model style is even sleeker. Japanese engineering with a European style. I'd recommend if trunk and rear seat space is not a factor. You will definitely need winter tires with this vehicle.

I've also owned a Honda Civic and was very pleased with it. Recommend. The fact that it is built in Ontario is an added bonus.

I'd also recommend the Nissan Sentra. You really can't go wrong with Japanese cars.

Good luck.

I'm alive, I'm alive
The Mazda 3 is still made in Japan.
Good pep, styling and handling. Rented it for a weekend out of town trip. I'll take a Mazda3 over a Civic or Sentra or Corolla anyday. I've seen many Jettas of years gone by that just don't hold up after 4 years.

If you have a HELOC you can find a very good 1 or 2 year car for 40% less than new, spend 1k on extended warranty and save a lot of money and still only 2.5% interest right now which is way less than the extra money you would have to pay for new.

I have NEVER bought a new car or leased a vehicle and never had a problem and SAVED a lot of money.

In January I picked up an 8 month (29,000 KM) old SUV for 24k on the road with 5 year comprehensive warranty and saved about 16k compared to new.....it was a former rental so I struggled with that for a while but 4 months later I look back and see it as the right move by a mile.

Did you know................

.............that if your car lease is about to expire and you need a new car you do not have to turn your car in at the end of the term. Lets say your 48 months ends at the end of this month and you are in a ruch to make a new deal. Your option is to continue to pay the monthly rate and keep it on a month by month basis until your new deal is done. If you are waiting for a new 2010 model to come out in September. then pay the extra 3 months to your lease company. Beter to get a good deal than to take what you can get now n a rush.

I also have a lease ending in august. My original plan was to lease a new car but with the current state of the market I'm more inclined to purchase my current vehicle at the end of the lease. My main problem with that is my buyout price is higher than I really want to spend, and higher than i think I should have to. Is there anyway I can use the current state of the auto market to negotiate a better buyout price?(I know it's written on my lease agreement, but still)
