There are options other than downloading music or buying new music CDs.

I stopped in earlier this week to Déjà Vu Discs and couldn’t believe how reasonable the used CDs were. I picked up two of my favourite Artists and got each CD for $4.00. Mind you, both albums were at least 8-10 years old, but they were both like new, neither one of the disc had a scratch.

These type second hand stores are springing up in local neighbourhoods, especially in the Oshawa and Ajax area and if you're a music lover like I am, its just one more option available.

I used to spend hours raiding used CD stores for $8 to $10 CDs. After downloading I never looked back but you have a great point which is that these stores have to adjust their prices to survive.

Vinyl can be cheap too.

In some ways there is the advantage that the sound quality of a CD is better than MP3 files.

I've found the same thing Frank, just can't beat the sound quality of a CD!!
Sure you can.....CD's compress music (not as much as mp3's), dbx made a dynamic range expander in the 80's-90's that makes it better. You can find them on eBay. But then you have to get the grapic EQ, and the parametric, and the..... you get my drift.....

You can do the same with movies. I like buying used DVDs on Amazon.

It costs about the same as a store rental, no hassles of Ebay bidding, and no long times trying to download/bootleg.

I know I'll get flamed for this but, I've recently begun playing my old vinyl albums and I enjoy the sound quality better than CDs. It's hard to describe the difference, I have duplicate copies of some of my favorites and the vinyl doesn't sound as harsh to my ears--there isn't the same fatigue that I get from listening to CDs.

Ahhh ... vinyl LPs. The good old days.

Remember when you used to play the records backwards to look for satanic messages? How about the older ones where the needle got to the middle and got stuck there and the record would spin forever? Or how about putting GI Joe and Star Wars action figures on the turntable? :p

CD's are more sterile.... I went with sound processors and vacuum tube amplifiers.... just as good as vinyl, but better because the stereo I have now is better. When CD's were still new they were slammed because they were so sterile compared to the warmth of vinyl, but no crackle/pop/hiss and they last "forever".
If you hear the difference between vinyl and CD, you will die when you hear the difference between solid-state and tube.....tube is a fuller, warmer sound. Nowadays a lot of people prefer solid-state, but call me a music dinosuar.... I prefer tube.
