"Peel Regional Police are investigating after an RCMP officer’s knapsack, containing a handgun and ammunition, was stolen at a Brampton hotel on Wednesday.

Police said the knapsack contained a silver Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun stamped with the RCMP logo, 46 rounds of ammunition, pepper spray, an expandable baton and handcuffs. The bag also carried the officer’s wallet and police issued badge.

The bag went missing from a Howard Johnson Hotel near Queen St. E. and Kennedy Rd. S. at around 2:30 p.m.

The bag is described as a beige nylon Merrill Territory Knapsack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the investigators at 905-453-2121 ext 2233."




Besides the obvious mistake of the star newspaper titling the article with 'stolen from a mississauga hotel' while it is actually in brampton, ain't this location quite ghetto? Queen/Kennedy hotel in brampton is ghetto and what would an rcmp officer be doing there? And how does an rcmp officer loose a bag with a gun+ammo in it? I thought sp's and drug dealers work out of that location. Anyone know?

I do not know what goes on in that hotel, but I do know that loosing a gun or badge is a career breaker. What was the reason for not having his gun and badge on his person, was he out on the hobby?

Actually, he was a SHE. My understanding is that she was there conducting an investigation. Apparently she put the bag down for a minute, was distracted and the bag was stolen. You can only imagine the panic that she must be feeling.

More likely what will happen is she'll get promoted to a non operational positon. The Commissioner of the mounties is so hell bent on moving women up the ranks, he doesn't care about competence. That outfit is so inept sometimes.
