Trump announced that he will authorize the Secretary of Transportation look into the $12,000 Toyota HiLux Champ to be built in America without consultation with Toyota. It can never be built in America to avoid tariffs because the labor cost is too high in the USA. The vehicle does not meet North American safety standards and crash test requirements.
When it does not happen it will be Toyotas fault because they are too greedy because there is not enough product and it will be Toyota that will deny America a low priced transportation and jobs. The Toyota HiLux Champ is meant for low speed dirt road use in tropical countries and not for highway speed in America. Toyota has a smaller less expensive pick-up coming, but it will not be the bare bones $12,000 HiLux Champ.
