Not sure I'd buy her story. If you know how to drive, you'd know that pulling the parking brake will lock up the car.

Why would she be honest about pulling the break and they lie about her expectations? If she wanted to lie, a much simpler one would be to say she didn't do anything.

Given the amount of drinking that had taken place, what the witnesses reported her saying above, and her courtroom demeanor even if she is lying about not knowing the effect of pulling the parking brake at speed, I don't believe she had any idea that what occurred would occur.

Of course she knew, she was attempting murder-suicide. She just didn't count on surviving. She was drunk and hysterical and out of control.

So was he: drunk, motor mouthing and out of control that is.

It just doesn't take me as being a failed Murder-Suicide. That doesn't mean that she isn't still guilty of the English version of Vehicular Manslaughter.

I'm not so sure. How often do you get to try out using the parking brake while moving? I believe she spoke the truth. However, I don't think it's a useful defense anyway. Causing a motor vehicle to stop in the middle of a road without the intention or foresight of the driver seems fairly reckless to me.

I hope the occupants of the Rover were all right.

Involuntary manslaughter would be an appropriate sentence. Her actions were idiotic and it caused her husband's death.

I'd say her actions contributed to the accident but were not t he sole cause of it. He was driving drunk, after all; perhaps he could have handled the handbrake sober, I know I could.

She has been convicted of manslaughter, and has been released on bail pending sentencing in January.
