Stéfanie Trudeau, a constable notorious because she has been dogged by complaints of police brutality, had complained that the Montreal adult-movie production house AD4 Distribution Inc. last fall released a film parodying her. Constable Trudeau, who is known as Badge no. 728, or “matricule 728” in French, wanted a permanent injunction banning the film and $100,000 in damages. However, in a ruling released Monday, Justice Hélène Le Bel of the Quebec Superior Court said the movie only alluded to Constable Trudeau’s public life and was therefore protected by its rights to freedom of speech.

Stefanie got in hot water last spring during one of the interminable “Carré Rouge” protests from earlier this year that regularly blocked traffic, stressed out cops, and kinda annoyed everyone else. We can debate the merits of the protests against college and university tuition hikes all we want, but one thing is pretty clear: Montreal’s cops don’t take shit, and that was evidenced quite clearly when Stefanie Trudeau filled a yappy bystander’s mouth with pepper spray this past May. That’s what propelled Stefanie Trudeau’s name and badge number into public knowledge, and her penchant for strong-arming people she doesn’t like kept them there. http://www.vice.com/en_ca/read/a-pepper-spray-loving-lady-cop-from-montreal-is-mad-about-a-porno
