In your opinion what is the best alternative for Mont Tremblant for skiing in Quebec or North East US. I want to go with family for 4 or 5 days and don't need the nightlife, hustle bustle of Tremblant.

Mont Ste Anne is nice also, but willing to try something new. What do you know?

Is Killington Vermont. Brilliant run design, grooming and lifts. Last time I was there (4 years) the only "on the hill" hotel wasnt the best, but if you dont mind driving a few minutes in the morning, lots to choose from.

I also think the Eastern Townships are undervalued, especially Owl's Head. You will be driving around but Orford is also worth a day and Bromont has great night skiing. I used to stay in Sherbrooke but there are better hotels now I think along Hwy 10.

Can't wait for the white stuff eh Meister.

Two of the best trips I ever took were to New Hampshire. It's just the other side of Vermont and has so many choices. You can ski Cannon for expert terrain. They have a tram. Waterville Valley, Loon both have verticals over 2000'. There's the panoramic view of Mount Washington from Wildcat, its a no bones type of place but they do a good job with the conditions and terrain. Plenty of 2 for 1 deals in the heat of ski season. If you like night skiing, there's Bretton Woods with over 1500' vertical. You can even nip over the state line and ski Sunday River for a day or two.

And the prices are the very best. This is going back a few years, but we were skiing and staying for anywhere from $29-49(US) a night. Dining out is very, very economical as well.

Its only an eight hour drive for some of the best skiing/boarder this side of the rockies.....

Thanks for your help. Those are some interesting choices. I think I will look into Vermont or NH to see how the strong CDN $ can make a difference. I've been to Lake Placid and liked the town, but wasn't too crazy about the ski facilities (12 years ago).

About 1 hour past Quebec City is Le Massif, which is very nice. It has the highest vertical in QC, lots of natural snow, great food, and IIRC no nightlife to speak of. And oh yeah, you will actually want to eat the food at the base lodge.
The last time I was at Le Massif was before they had any lifts. No grooming, no snow-making and a bus to get to the top. It was one of my top 5 skiiing days anywhere.

Another spot to consider is Jay Peak. It's been quire a while since I was there but another of my top 5 days - Easter weekend. It was sunny, warm the snow was great and everyone was in a great mood.

There are so many great spots to go in that part of the world. If you don't mind driving a little, it might be better to pick a central location as a base of operations and take advantage of the surrounding areas.
