Okay all you musicologists out there help me out here....
I want to put together a compilation of money songs...that is to say, songs about money such as:

ABBA; In A Rich Man's World
Beatles; Money and perhaps, Can't Buy Me Love
Bare Naked Ladies; If I Had A Million Dollars
The Theme from the Trump Show...not sure who does it though?

Please add others and if someone can help me on the Trump theme would be appreciated.

There's another interesting new wave/experimental version from the 70's by The Flying Lizards. My fav version for that song.

The Theme from the Trump Show...not sure who does it though?
For the Love of Money - The Ojays

For the Love of Money by the O'Jays. A soul group from Philadelphia in the 70's. Loved that group, my ATF was Love Train.

My favorite is "Banana Boat Song". This is a Jamaican folk song of unknown authorship but normally attributed to Harry Bellefonte.

But, I did a quick search and a list quickly presented itself. This is not fully inclusive but addition to the obvious names and performers:

The Beatles - Baby you’re a rich man
Bay City Rollers - Money Honey
Adventures of Stevie V - Dirty cash
Dire Straits - Money for nothing

The following candidates with their song writers fit your general request:

This is a little out of the genre that I normally listen to but...

There are a few things that come to mind, that aren't as "classic" but still talk about money...

That annoying Gwen Stefani song - If I was a rich girl (not sure it that's the title....)

* Mo money mo problems - Notorious BIG

* Desire - U2

* Got my mind set on you - George Harrison

* She works hard for her money - Donna Summer

* Working 9 to 5 - Dolly Parton

ALWAYS TRUE TO YOU (IN MY FASHION) - Cole Porter

If a custom-tailored vet
Asks me out for something wet,
When the vet begins to pet, I cry "Hooray!"
But I'm always true to you, darlin', in my fashion,
Yes, I'm always true to you, darlin', in my way.

I enjoy a tender pass
By the boss of Boston, Mass.,
Though his pass is middle-class and notta Backa Bay.
But I'm always true to you, darlin', in my fashion,
Yes, I'm always true to you, darlin', in my way.

There's a madman known as Mack
Who is planing to attack,
If his mad attack means a Cadillac, okay!
But I'm always true to you, darlin', in my fashion,
Yes, I'm always true to you, darlin', in my way.

I've been asked to have a meal
By a big tycoon in steel,
If the meal includes a deal, accept I may.
But I'm always true to you, darlin', in my fashion,
Yes, I'm always true to you, darlin', in my way.

I could never curl my lip
To a dazzlin' diamond clip,
Though the clip meant "let 'er rip," I'd not say "Nay!"
But I'm always true to you, darlin', in my fashion,
Yes, I'm always true to you, darlin', in my way.

There's an oil man known as Tex
Who is keen to give me checks,
And his checks, I fear, mean that sex is here to stay!
But I'm always true to you, darlin', in my fashion,
Yes, I'm always true to you, darlin', in my way.

From Ohio Mister Thorne
Calls me up from night 'til morn,
Mister Thorne once cornered corn and that ain't hay.
But I'm always true to you, darlin', in my fashion,
Yes, I'm always true to you, darlin', in my way.

From Milwaukee Mister Fritz
Often moves me to the Ritz,
Mister Fritz is full of Schlitz and full of play.
But I'm always true to you, darlin', in my fashion,
Yes, I'm always true to you, darlin', in my way.

Mister Harris, plutocrat,
Wants to give my cheek a pat,
If the Harris pat
Means a Paris hat,
Bébé, Oo-la-la!
Mais je suis toujour fidèle, darlin', in my fashion,
Oui, je suis toujour fidèle, darlin', in my way.

How to be a Millionaire - ABC
"Millionaire.....Billionaire......Zillionaire...."

The Thompson Twins had "Who wants to be a Millionaire" off of a Red Hot & Blue compilation LP with numerous artists, but when I listen to it, I substitute their negatives with positives. "Who wants to be a millionaire? I don't..." So I say "I do!" Now I can!

I disagree - I think it's one of the best Beatle songs and certainly one of their best cover tunes.

Money Honey - State of Shock
Blue Money - Van Morrison
Money City Maniacs - Sloan
Big Fat Money - Van Halen
More Love for The Money - Styx

OnTheWayOut

how about the Kinks?

The Kinks did a few songs about money:

Low Budget

Father Christmas

Where have all the good times gone?

I'm sure there's more but those are the ones that popped right up for me.
