avi is being phased out and mp4 is not as good as mkv.
What is your problem with mkv?
Just use a player that reads mkv files.

I moved to mkv files using FFmpeg because they convert faster, are smaller files and look just as good as mp4 files....:wink:

I haven't tried lately but I was having problems finding a player that can handle mkv on my Android pad. AVI, MP4 - no problem but he mkv doesn't have audio. Tried a couple players but no luck so I just stuck to my non-MKV when travelling. I've got lots of great mkv movies so a solution would be nice.

I have iOS, but VLC exists for Android; it's great. Don't use VideoPlayer on my iphone anymore.
