Pretty face but too overweight for me.

Sara has dreamed of becoming Miss Alabama for eight years. This year marked her third attempt at the crown, after competing twice before without winning.

She first entered a National American Miss pageant at the age of 15, fueled by a strong desire to win, but did not place.

"At 16 I came back as a Teen," she said on Instagram.

"I worked so hard and changed everything about myself.

"I became who I thought they wanted. Days before the pageant, I had a mean boy tell me I was 'too ugly' to win. I was going to prove him wrong so I went into pageant weekend with a fire under me. I didn't even place.

"I was humiliated and hung my head low thinking my non-placement meant one thing. He was right. I vowed to never compete again. So I didn't. For seven years.

"This weekend I returned to the NAM stage to prove to myself I didn't give up. I could do this. I was more than the mean things that was said to me."

Her perseverance was finally rewarded with her recent victory. On her Pageant Planet profile, Sara expressed her goal of being the first plus-sized NAM Miss Alabama, aiming to show other women that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

Previous Alabama winners

Just to clarify...Sara won Miss Alabama in the National American Miss Pageant.

I've never heard of it, either.

This pageant has twelve different categories, and an age 4-24 upper and lower limit. Here are pics of recent winners:

I'm going to go out on a limb, and surmise that the swimsuit competition does not determine a sizeable percentage of the overall score.

La la land
I am no conspiracy theorist but why the push for fat / big people?

Are aliens arriving to our planet and taking over soon and they are fat?

Say what you will, having spent some time on the beaches of 'bama (beautiful by the way!) she is quite representative of a large number of women down there. And the men are no smaller on average either.. I think the biggest contributor to the morbid obesity problem in the south is drinking sooooo much soda (pop). Fuck they sell these Super Sized cups buckets of Coke, pepsi and every other super sugared drinks everywher and it seems everyone is always drinking one. Or beer.

The people of Alabama are some of the nicest, good natured and hospitable folks I have met throughout the US.

As long as it wasn't a dude.
Sorry to tell you this, but it seems that same pageant did just that in another state.

No, the article you linked contains some false information.

Trans woman Bailey Anne Kennedy won Miss Maryland in the Miss USA pageant. The winner of Miss USA competes in the Miss Universe pageant.

The Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants used to be big events, with live television broadcasts on major networks in the USA, (NBC, Fox, etc.). The property is much less valuable today, and the broadcast streams on the Internet instead. The pageant hasn't been broadcast on Network TV in ten years. It was formerly owned by Donald Trump, and is currently owned by Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip, a trans woman from Thailand.

Sarah Milliken won Miss Alabama in the National American Miss pageant, which is completely unrelated to Miss USA and Miss Universe.

Thanks for noticing. It is from Alaska. Sarah Palin probably wrote it and her reading comprehension was low in spite of reading “all” of the magazines in the office.

They also drink tons of what they call "Sweet tea" we call it iced tea. You go to a restaurant, waiters are constantly walking around with pitchers of ice tea and refilling your big glasses. (also full of sugar)
