It’s been a good week for Mike Vick. Last Sunday he won the Sportsman of the Year award at the BET awards and he ended the week with the announcement that he would be resigned by Nike.
“I want to thank Nike and all my fans for the support throughout. Greatly appreciated,” Vick tweeted on Friday.

Vick first signed with Nike in his rookie year but was dropped after he pleaded guilty to dog fighting charges in 2007. Last year Vick was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year after leading the Eagles to a 10-6 record and an NFC East title.
While Vick was reestablishing himself as an elite NFL player, Vick and his team have been busy using Twitter to promote various projects. There is the Michael Vick football camp, Vick-sponsored wrist bands and Vick’s participation in the 2012 Madden cover contest in which he lost to Peyton Hillis in the finals. Although he lost to Hillis, Vick still has dedicated fans that have supported him through his situation.
“Why am i just finiding out NIke just re signed MIcheal Vick!,” tweeted Evan Ravenel, Ohio State forward. “Def getting them, shoes when that come back out !!!”
This will be the first time that Nike has resigned a player that was originally dropped from the brand. Although Vick hasn’t been signed with Nike for some time, it doesn’t mean he has stopped wearing the clothes. He was recently photographed wearing a black Nike tracksuit and a LeBron James’ Witness t-shirt during a visit to ESPN’s campus with Hillis in April.
Although Vick has won over many fans with his play on the football field and displays of humility off it, some fans will always want to bring up his past.
