MICE LOOK FOR SHELTER IN COLD AND WILL GET INTO ENGINE COMPARTMENT

They bite through wires

Can be very expensive

Mechanic said put mothballs in the compartment

Cats sometimes crawl up there too. I heard of a cat my friend knew who got fucked up when the owner started the engine. Cat survived but got seriously fucked up.

Red House over yonder.
One winter I put some leftover Chinese food in my car for lunch later at my office. Some days later I smelled a very horrible stink in the car. A woodchuck, perhaps trying to tunnel itself to the Chinese food aroma, had lodged its head in a crevice in the engine compartment and had been burned black and stinky by the exhaust manifold. I took the car to a farm and a friend of mine and I removed the plastic under panel, pulled the blackened beast from its crevice and buried the body. The next day my rural friend reported that something else had dug it up - maybe for another lunch.

OMG - I’ve had this - was a squirrel. I was shocked.

Back then I didn’t drive very often so the car just sat for over a month. Stupid thing, made a nest and everything.

Happened to me too, but ours was driven daily. One morning it just didn't start.

Mechanic wrapped the new wiring in mice proof tape. Didn't even know that was a thing.

Happened to me too. Initially showed up as an engine light warning and by the time it was fixed - $600+, 10 years ago - my mechanic said it was a mouse chewing through the wiring and had also built a nest near the engine too. I was shocked and surprised since it was the first time this ever happened in all the years I've owned cars.

Wait till you get a mouse nest in the exhaust system, bubby of mine had it you have a choice tear the exhaust apart to clean it out of burn it out. Just done get behind him in traffic...

I bought a vintage muscle car that had been stored in a barn for 20+ years. Was in incredible shape. The classic "barn find".

However, some time after buying it, I discovered mouse nests in two hidden spots above the frame. Mouse piss had rusted the otherwise pristine, original frame right through.

Red squirrels are notably destructive.

Happened to the cat of an old teenage girlfriend. Fan belt tore the skin off half the cat. Looked horrific. Took it to the vet and got stitched up good as new. 👌

Paul Volpe.

But the car was his wife's grey BMW. Not white.
Thank you for correcting me, I know when the situation unfolded I thought to myself this must be a a drug bust I mean after all I had the duty manager there Peel, Toronto and the RCMP all wanting that trunk open. I advised them for me to open the trunk there will be damage to the lock, they didn’t care just open it, after about 5 or 10 minutes on working on it the trunk popped open, one of the officers put their hand on the trunk lid and said okay you guys can go now so the Millwright that I was with and I we packed up our tools and walked away, stayed in the stairwell for about 15 minutes and then we had a peek.
