I'm sure that fuji and Anbarandy ( or are they the same?) just missed this or they would have posted it.;)
Metrolinkx was previously the Greater Toronto Transportation Authority.

TORONTO • Just two days before the greatest challenge to his leadership since his election, Mayor Rob Ford won a qualified nod of support from the chief of the agency that will spearhead transit expansion.

While stopping short of endorsing a particular transit blueprint, Bruce McCuaig said Mr. Ford’s preferred plan for underground light rail on Eglinton Avenue “delivers greater benefit” than the Transit City version a coalition of councillors want to revive.

From your cited article: “There are benefits to both approaches,” Mr. McCuaig acknowledged, such as more stations on a surface LRT. He added it depends on whether one looks at the full plan or a specific project. “While the revised [Eglinton] Crosstown project is higher cost, it does deliver greater benefits.” Sure, but as he said, that's only if you look at the one project—and it ain't a subway—in isolation.
Again, from your article: New analysis from environmental think-tank The Pembina Institute found the four light rail lines would bring transit to 120,000 more Torontonians than the Mayor’s plan, including the Sheppard subway, at about 70% of the cost.

Worth actually thinking about McCuaig's mention of station intervals. To serve riders you put stops where they want them. When you're serving a trainload at a time you build expensive underground stations as close together as you can. But when a dozen or so folks an hour use your $50,000,000 underground station and you still have to shuttle them on the surface 'cause the next is miles away, planting a pole beside the LRT and calling it a stop looks awful sensible.

But Rob does seem determined to starve most of the City to bring his gravy train to Scarborough underground, doesn't he?. We shall see if that is the will of the City.

Yeah but the subway train holds over 1200 passengers and stops fewer times, plus runs at a faster speed. You have no traffic lights or weather delays so it gets you there much faster and runs more often. In the end the subway has far more pluses what you invest now will pay in the future.

All things considered I would value McCuaig's opinion far more than yours.

Neither McCuaig, nor I, nor the Mayors Ford decides, however.

It's Council's decision that expresses the will of the City.

And, with hindsight, they don't exactly have a very good record do they? We shall see what the electorate think of their performance the next time around.

Rob's record on Council—before and after being elected Mayor—is certainly no shining beacon. His brother's attempt to cast yesterday's results as the downtown elite putting the boots to the 'burbs was as divisive and unworthy of a civic leader as I've seen in TO. Inaccurate too, as the plan we now have puts various RT's all over the City, forces an above ground LRT on Eg downtown and promises the first dollar ever for the Sheppard subway to Scarboro that Rob couldn't, wouldn't and didn't find anyone to pay for. Besides, the elite can't outnumber the rest; says so in the definition.

Things may change, but at this point I couldn't imagine any Council candidate hooking themselves to the Fords' bandwagon come election time. Not even Rob'n'Doug.
