Reading her Bio she seems like a good choice, Much better than the one at least at first blush, if a little politically expedient given recent news.

As long as thorough check is actually done this time of the closet for bones and such, I'm good. Its a ceremonial role. As long as she is willing(unlike her predecessor) to do all the nice public stuff, not be controversial, open Parliament and be decent to her staff the choice is fine.

The Governor General is the Queen's representative in Canada. First Nations entered into treaties with the Crown (many of them before Canada was a country). They still litigate over their interpretation of these treaties to this day. How could a first nations Canadian not have a conflict of interest in acting as the Queen's representative?
