I downloaded an asx file ( it was a pepsi commercial I never saw with Pink, Britney Spears and Beyonce dressed in gladiator gear and singing "we will rock you" by queen) and an mpeg of the same commercial. The asx file is quite small but it has the same play time as the mpeg which is quite large. Is this because it links to a source somewhere on the net to play the content? If so, once it has been played is the content placed somewhere on my system?

More to do with the compression rates. The .asx files are compressed more than the .mpeg files but the .mpegs will have a higher quality than the .asx. BTW, .asx files are Windows media files in case you didn't know. And yes the file is stored on your 'puter not on the net.

Got it? Good, just don't spread it around...

I didn't know the file was self contained, thanks for that info.
