Andropov has had time to impress and granted injuries have hurt him, but in mine and most..he hasnt impressed. At least it was only a one year deal. Now McCabe....love the guy! glad to have him back for "multiple years". I also love the pic they used of him in that piece lol..too funny,it says it all. terms not disclosed but im guessing CHA CHING!

But not too much for the Leafs...they can easily afford it.

I'm with E, Antropov had his time, ship him out and make room for some new blood. Package him with Kaberle.....
Karbele? I wouldn't give up on him just yet. That guy has a hell of future ahead of him. He's still learning and just had a bad year last year. He didn't have the points like the year before last, but his skating, stick work and man to man coverage is fantastic. In my opinion anyway.

Kat do you think McCabe deserves to get a decrease in pay after last year? 2.5-3 this year? he was making 3.5 last year. Yikes i dont know what you are thinking there. I like the McCabe signing and him as a player. Tough, puts up points and lets Lurch toss him around every now and then to the delight of Sens fans. Only pleasure they get when playing the Leafs so they can have it. But you want to pay McCabe less than last year? Dont think so babe

did he really play better last year than the year before? IMO yes he did, but only marginally...more points yes- but most of them came from when he started playing with Leetch... (he was in a big slump most of the year if you can recall)

but he probably is worth the money considering that they are paying him in leaf dollars. ie, they could probably still afford to pay more and not interrupt their financial situation. he is supposed to be their most dependable blueliner- even though he is not that tough, gets injured frequently and takes too many penalties- he is still kinda young... well not really anymore...

I had McCabe on my pool team & he was consistant most of the year. He was injured to start the season.

Sorry, to be a defenceman in the NHL you need to clear in front of your own net. Kaberle has trouble cleaning up the ice the maintainence guys do on commercial breaks, let him go....

Leaf stuff

I agree with Kathleen.

Kaberle is too soft in front of his own net and loses any and all battles for space in his own end. That is very dangerous and a liability against most teams, especially in the playoffs.

The Leafs have enough defencemen with offensive skills – Leetch and McCabe to name a couple. They need to replace Kaberle with a tough, mobile stay at home defenceman.

As far as Nik is concerned, I believe the reason why he is still around is ego – Pat Quinn’s to be exact. The Leafs surprised many when they took him so high and now they are trying to prove they were correct in doing so. To give up on him would be admitting they made a mistake. Now, with JFJ as GM he may not care so much as he wasn’t the one who drafted him so the possibility of a move increases.

Put up your hand if you would like the Leaf centres to be: Sundin, Niewenduyk and the Big E. With a contract built on incentives, I would love to see Lindros as the 3rd line centre instead or Reichel ( sorry for the spelling ).

what could you really get for Nik, though? all the league knows of his history- there isn't much out there that will add more to the team than what Nik does... remember, he still is big and strong, though gentle- i think leaf fans just have to accept that he and Kaberle didn't pan out as expected...

Nik, not impressed. I feel that a dumb move, and hate how Quinn has such high regard for him.
McCabe, better, but I wouldn't have signed him any higher then 2.5- 3 million a season. He is a great defenceman, but no all star to me. 10 million over 2yrs is too much. I'd agree with Cnd-Guy on this subject.

Eric Brewer I like better, and he signed with Edmonton cheaper. Mind you, Pronger signs with St Louis for 10million for 1 yr.. and people can't figure out why a cap is needed? Just insane money these owners are giving.

Kathleen
But McCabe WAS an All-Star last year.
?
He deserves what he got - granted that he plays for the Leafs.
Brewer's got a ways to go to be as good a player as McCabe, and the offense might never be there.

As for Kaberle, this could be a make or break year - although, given that it'll be short, if there are any games played at all, we may have to postpone that to the next full season.
He is WAY too soft - by FAR the weakest link on the defensive side.
He needs to start positioning better, taking the man, and shooting. Otherwise, he'll turn into just another floating D like Salo, Albelin ....

Why everyone so down on poor old Nik? Granted he haven't lived up to expectation but I am sure it would be easy for MLSE to let him loose if they had any good youngster ready. Given MLSE's track record in the draft, I wouldn't bet on it. I suspect this will be his last chance to show his worth. I hope he prove everyone wrong ...

well you guys may be right but its just one year so im sure Nik will go if he doesnt step it up. Mccabe is a keeper as well as Kaberle

What about Wilm and Tellqvist signings? I like Wilm not sure about Tellqvist he would make a good back up tho!

But they're both going to be resigned.
So, if that's true, I guess it should tell you that they passed - otherwise, the Leafs would give up. No?
