I learned the following recently from a dealer while looking for a new car.

From http://www.canadiandriver.com/reviews/010720.htm

"To find Canadian Black Book trade-in values online, go to either www.daimlerchrysler.ca or www.toyota.ca. Click on any model car and, in the navigation menu on the left of the screen, select the link titled, "Trade in value" at DaimlerChrysler or "Appraise your trade-in" at Toyota. These links launch a new window which originates from www.canadianblackbook.com."

This will give you an idea of the wholesale value.

Mazda's are about as dependable as American cars. I've worked on a Protege before. Had a power window switch problem. As well, it wouldn't turn over.

I checked to make sure it was getting spark and that that rotor cap (ancient technology for a late 90's car. Was disappointed because GM started using distributorless ignition starting in the mid 80's) and was pretty sure the engine wasn't catching because it wasn't building compression. I phoned the Mazda dealer and asked them if it was ok if I squirted some oil in the cylinders to build compression, and they advised against it.

I had it towed to a garage so that it could be hooked up to a scan tool. Turned out my guess was right about the lack of compression and the Mazda dealer probably just wanted the car in thier shop.

Changed the timing belt and water pump out on my uncle's 626. Discovered at the same time it had a bad power steering pump. didn't replace it because it was $800 new, and $400 from a wrecker.

Driving it on the highway, I noticed a vibration coming through the wheel. Turns out the aluminum rims were bent because they weren't designed beefy enough.

I think the Protege is the same car as a Ford Focus...The ugliest car ever built....at least the Mazda looks a bit better.....

I have a 2002 P5. Have not had any problems with it. Have had it for 3 years now and the only concern I had was my headlight bulbs went on me a few times last winter. Other than that, its been perfect. Mine has about 60,000 km so far.
After owning VWs & Nissan, this car is a dream.

I know a few people who have had 323's for ages and they're still ticking along.

Can't tell you about price, but otherwise its great.

Try Honda or Toyota, ask any mechanic and they'll tell you that you can't go wrong.

Does it have cool neon lamps on the windshield washer nozzles? Because that's worth at least 30 extra horsepower.

correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the reason why most people avoid these cars (especially if brand new) is because they come very standard......like practically paying just for the chasis
