are there any real Maple Leaf fans or just Toronto fans who happen to have the Maple Leafs as the team in this city? I mean...how can anyone be a fan of that freak show that has played here for the past 40 years.

Don't know how much of a rivalry could develop between a Hamilton Coyote team and Toronto or Buffalo.
They are a west division team, and probably will remain one.
If you move them to the east, who goes to the west?
Plus, if Balsillie succeeds in moving the Coyotes to the Hammer, it will piss off Bettman no end, and he is going to resist doing anything that would help Balsille financially or competitively.
Lots and lots of air miles for them, just like Detroit.

The league wants a 400 million $ expansion fee for that area, not profits going to another owner and them getting nothing. I bet the players are praying not to end up in Hamilton, also, how many divorces will there be. I remeber hearing how many there was when Atlanta moved to Calgary, many wives said no way.

Not that the players have a say.

I really dont understand how a Hamilton team will affect the Leafs. The tickets that were used by people from the Hamilton area will now be available for Toronto people. The ACC will still sell out per usual and when the Hamilton team comes in it will bring fans down the QEW.

The Ticats and Argos both bring down busloads of fans each year but granted the tix are no way as costly as the ACC.

Same goes for the Sabres.I am SURE Hamilton fans would scoot down to Buffalo for games against the Sabres AFTER going to Honeys,Tooleys or the Anchor Bar etc. You would STILL get fans from the Niagara area as well.

I think it would be a GREAT 3 way rivalry!!!!!! Think of the thousands the Leafs and Sabres would save in airfare alone going to Hamilton.

I think the Count is a bit concerned now.

I'm REALLY PO'd at Gretzky who KNOWS this area well but I guess he's just another NHL lackie now being an owner et al His dad should at least come forward to help JB with the bid but maybe he's been muzzled too.

Bettman has already solved the problem. Move the coyotes to Hamilton and grant a franchise to Winnipeg (which could use a team as per Bettmann) which is in the west. Canada will gain 2 teams and the conferences will have 16 teams each.

Huh?

How does adding one team (Winnipeg) to a 30 team league equal a league with two 16 team divisions?
Is this that "New Math" they used to teach?

I think Betman would like to move it to Winnipeg because he'll never get a 400 mill franchise fee there, and let Baldsilly pay the fee for Hamilton.

I would move Boston to the ATLANTIC where it should be geographicly and replace it with Hamilton. Last time I looked Pittsburg is INLAND!! Ive been there NO OCEAN!!!
OR make an entire CANADIAN Division V-E-C-H-T-O-M.!!!

I am a Leaf fan and another hockey team in Ontario makes sense. The sun belt teams and non traditional hockey market teams are going bankrupt, so it's better for the NHL and hockey to bring those bankrupt teams to traditional hockey Markets. Teams in Hamilton, Vaughn, Winnipeg and Quebec will suceed. Even with a team in Hamilton I will still be a Leaf fan. Copps coliseum will sell out every night and Leafs fans who can't get tickets at the ACC will make the drive down the QEW. A team in Hamilton will not cut into MLSE profits and will never hurt MLSE. It's been proven when the NHL added the Islanders, Sabres and Devils in the New York area. The Rangers have not been hurt by teams moving into their territory. Same thing when Anahiem and San Jose moved into LA territory.

An all Canadian Division would be a nice novelty but it will never happen because it would involve the teams to travel east to west vise versa at least 3 times a season. For example the Leafs would have to travel at least 3 times to western Canada because they would have to play each other 6 times a season (3 home, 3 away). I don't think the GMs (in the Eastern Conference) would like this.

Uhhhhhh, Lovelatinas, the Sabres are NOT in the New York area. They are in New York state, but it is a good 7 hour drive to NYC.

55 Min flight too!!!!
