The thought is that trans people will have fewer defenders because more of the other bigotries are less palatable to the general public.

I think its more like displaced anger. There are some woke arguments with respect to age of transition, pronouns etc., that are indeed silly and annoying.

We used to see (and will see in the future - these things tend to come around again) that with Black people and Muslims. We are now seeing it with Trans folk and that is going to be the focus for a while since it is the current target.

It's the pattern and tactic that is important to note here, not why any given person in real life might have issues with "woke pronouns" or whatever.
