What a dumb point ^
Half the world watches because they don't have any other sports to watch....so they're STUCK watching that garbage game.
Look at North America: NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB DUH! why the fuck would you wanna watch soccer, when you can watch those four sports.
WOW! what an exciting game, hardly any scoring chances and what, one or two goals a game.
I'd rather watch grass grow.
.
Sure they do.
They have the option and in many parts of hte world, the other sports do get plenty of attention. For example, Basketball is huge. And with good reason.
But so many times American style football has been tried in Europe...and fails.
Hockey continues to be a niche sport that only a handful of countries play.
And you're ragging on soccer?
I dunno why soccer doesn't get any respect in North America but it's the only place. In fact, really just America since there are large sections of Canada that do respect it. Really, you just have to go to the backcountry to find the parts of this country that don't play it or watch it.
In terms of participation, even in hockey-mad Canada, soccer still beats every sport by a country mile. From a viewership point of view, no sporting event on the planet draws like the World Cup, not even the Olympics.
Just because in Canada hockey rules, doesn't mean WE aren't the ones that are wrong on this. There is a reason hockey can't even break even in the US but the richest athletes in the world are mostly soccer players. And yeah, Ali is probably the most famous sportsman in the world but then the list of the next 100 is probably dominated by soccer stars. Other than Gretzky, you'd probably never find any other hockey player. And very few NFL or baseball players. Probably some basketball players. Sometimes, Canadians are more like Americans than I would like us to be.
