Toronto police are searching for a man that allegedly robbed a victim after putting them in a chokehold and knocking them unconscious at a TTC station.

The incident happened on April 12 around 9:30 p.m. at Pioneer Village station, located on Steeles Avenue West, between the city and Vaughan.

It’s believed that a man was aboard a northbound train en route to Pioneer Village. When the victim exited, that individual was followed by the suspect.

Police said that once the man made it on the platform, the suspect grabbed him from behind in a chokehold and choked the victim until he lost consciousness.

The suspect then fled with the man’s belongings.

He is described as a man last seen wearing a black North Face jacket and black pants. The investigation is ongoing.

In recent weeks, Toronto has seen a concerning increase in violent crimes committed at or near transit stations. On Tuesday night, a man allegedly stabbed a victim in the neck in what police are calling an unprovoked attack. The suspect is currently being sought.

One particular crime committed at a Toronto subway station has renewed calls for safety barriers to be installed at the edge of all subway platforms. On Sunday, shocking video showed a woman pushing another woman onto the tracks as a train arrived at Bloor-Yonge station. The suspect was eventually arrested and now faces an attempted murder charge.

This incident came after a stabbing at Yorkdale subway station, which occurred on April 11. A man was taken into custody. Days before that, on April 7, a 21-year-old student, later identified as Kartik Vasudev, was killed in broad daylight outside Sherbourne subway station in what police believe to be a targeted shooting.

Man stabbed in neck in 'unprovoked attack' at St. George subway station

Toronto police are searching for a suspect after a man was stabbed in an “unprovoked attack” at St. George Station on Tuesday night.

Officers were called to the TTC subway station at 11:30 p.m. after getting reports that someone had been stabbed.

Police say a 30-year-old man was sitting on the subway platform talking to someone else when he was stabbed in the neck by another man. Police believe the attack was unprovoked.

The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

Police are looking for a suspect they believe to be “armed, violent, and dangerous.”

He is described as a white male in his 20s with short blonde hair, an average build, and a goatee. He was last seen wearing a white bandana, blue shirt, and black pants and was holding a white baseball cap with a red logo on the front and a green brim.

The suspect fled the station and was last seen on Bedford Road.

“Our thoughts are with the victim of this awful and unprovoked attack for a full recovery,” the TTC said in a statement, through spokesperson Stuart Green. “We will, as always, work with Toronto Police Service and lend whatever assistance we can to their investigation.”

The “We are also in the process of hiring an additional 56 special constables that were approved in 2021,” the TTC added. “In the wake of these recent incidents, we are focusing resources in and around the subway system to both give customers an added sense of safety and security as well as to respond in the unlikely event of a safety incident.” TTC says it’s upped security at various stations, with “40 Special Constables strategically patrolling the system.”

Why was the first suspect only described as a male with a dark jacket, but the second was described as a white male? A male with a dark jacket could be one of millions in the GTA. A white guy with a goatee narrows it down substantially. Can only describe the person's race if white?

Time to increase patrolling at these stations, temporarily at least, till the society gets back to relatively normal, pre-COVID standards.

Else, with masks already down, the Protective Neck Collars might go up and selling, to ward off attacks like these.

Man, this could have proved fatal.

Cuz these days it's considered politically incorrect by and for mainstream news media to describe any characteristics that may identify a suspect of being other than white, seemingly no matter now dangerous that suspect may be to the public in general... :(
