A time and motion expert was cleared of voyeurism today after a jury decided it was not illegal to secretly film his sexual performance with his girlfriend.

Graham Gibbons had admitted making the 35-minute long illicit tape to assess the efficiency of his bedroom prowess and not for a sexual thrill.
Judge Nicholas Cooke QC told the jury: 'He is charged with voyeurism, not with being an oddball. You must decide whether he is guilty.'

A jury then took just ten minutes in time to find Mr Gibbons, 44, not guilty of voyeurism - and a judge then motioned for him to walk free from court.

After the verdict, Mr Gibbons said: 'I was only doing my job as a time and motion expert.

'I am very happy with the verdict. I've had this hanging over me for a long time.'

Mr Gibbons set up his mobile phone at the bedside to film himself making love to his girlfriend without her knowing.

Video expert Mr Gibbons then uploaded the homemade sex tape onto his laptop to give his professional judgement on his bedroom athletics.

Mr Gibbons told police: 'After studying the tape I gave her 20 minutes of sexual satisfaction, five minutes of intercourse and another nine minutes of sexual satisfaction.'

Recorder of Cardiff Nicholas Cooke QC said: 'He had experience in making videos to analyse the way work was being done.
'He described the video as time and motion analysis or academic research.
'He said he wanted to see what was going on during love-making.
'Mr Gibbons told that their sex life was boring and he was the one doing all the work.'

Cardiff Crown Court heard Mr Gibbons specialises in time and motion engineering - the science of making businesses more efficient by studying people at work.
''It was far from sexy and there was actuallly very little action in it. I think the jury could see there was very little sexual gratification in it for anyone'

The jury heard Mr Gibbons was a 'time and motion expert' who worked as a production engineer for Japanese electronics giant Panasonic.

Mr Gibbons, of Maesteg, near Bridgend, South Wales, filmed his bedroom prowess as an 'academic research' project.

But his girlfriend later found the video on his laptop, called in police and ended their relationship.

'What he recorded was the private sexual activity between both parties.

'Graphic sexual activity can well be seen in that video and it lasts for some half an hour.
Cardiff Crown Court (pictured) heard Gibbons filmed his bedroom prowess as an 'academic research' project. But his girlfriend later found the video on his laptop, called in police and ended their relationship
'The filming was to determine who was spending the most time doing what and an analysis of a time and motion study.

'He was able to give police officers an accurate breakdown of time spent on different activities - giving them timings.'

The 35-minute long X-rated video was shown to the jury - although the judge asked members of the public to leave the court.

The court heard Mr Gibbons claimed that throughout their relationship he was doing more than his fair share in the bedroom.

But he denied making the tape for sexual gratification or filming the sex scene to show to anyone else.

In a police interview the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said she was unaware he was filming them having sex and she was outraged when she found out.

But the court heard he was made redundant shortly before the allegations came to light.

The court heard his girlfriend had no idea she was being filmed at Mr Gibbons' home.

She told police: 'He told me there was another copy of the tape but I would never find it.

'I was worried that the tape would be passed around.'

But the jury of seven men and five women took only 10 minutes to clear Mr Gibbons of being a pervert.

One member of the jury who saw the video said later: 'It was far from sexy and there was actuallly very little action in it. I think the jury could see there was very little sexual gratification in it for anyone.'

Now if the guy had tapes of himself taking out the garbage, cutting the grass, then I'd believe him when he says he isn't doing it for a thrill, but otherwise he's a perv.

It doesn't say if she asked him to delete the video and then he refused. It's a good warning to other women he might try to date.

The case took place in the UK. Not sure what the law is here.
