He was respected when he was an environmental lawyer who did some amazing things to protect the ecosystem. See, I'd rather the candidates have notes and make fact-backed arguments about problems and issues, and how they plan to solve them. Trump is great at free wheeling the bullshit and lies. It is virtually impossible for him to speak for longer than a minute without making one lie. It is so much easier to lie like a cheap rug than say things with substance. So, when Trump could have an honest debate, without the hyperbole and bullshit, then neither would need notes...What Kamala is known for - when she doesn't have notes...
