Walmart does not want you to see any of this. Therefore, I highly encourage you to watch this 25 minute documentary.

http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/made-bangladesh/

It focus's on Walmart's complex supply chain, their inside knowledge of contractors, sub-contractors, and poor working conditions, and its ability to distance itself from catastrophes such as the factory fire that killed 112 people and injured hundreds more. (Where doors were locked, and the windows were barred, trapping the workers inside). And the factory collapse the killed well over a 1000 people.

Walmart would not even acknowledge that these suppliers existed in their chain until photo evidence of the products in the factory went public.

If it helps, Hugh Jackman and Tom Cruise are in the video at the beginning hired as public speakers at the Walmart convention. They look impeccable!

There was something on CBC tv the other night about these 'fashion mills' in Bangladesh. I only managed to catch the last 30 mins. of it, but even still, what an eye opener. The google photo essay images are beyond words....... Sincerely, Jon .

18 cents and hour..... children as young at 12 were found in these factories...... and they will in all likelihood be there the rest of their lives.

Either that, or starve to death before reaching adulthood. Slavery or starvation, one would choose slavery every time.

This site has strong Neo-con support, won't find very much sympathy here from them.
Human rights violations are not big on their priority list, I've been bashed for pointing out similar issues.

Having sympathy is one thing,...which I can't see ANYBODY here not having,...but telling a foreign country how to handle its affairs,... is another.

Why don't you speak up about families with ZERO income, and starving babies in these very same countries.

But I realize its much more fun to knock business, when your anti business in the 1st place.

I'm not Anti-Business I'm anti-CRONY capitalism/Human rights violations. These companies can operate in these countries and still save money if they provide ADULT workers with fair living wages.

ALL WESTERN NATIONS do is tell foreign countries how to handle their affairs, I don't know what world you're living in. These companies can simply enforce standards and these small sub-contractors will comply. I don't shop at Gap and I very rarely shop at Walmart (I only do if I'm buying something for someone else that told me to go there and that's a rare case).

I like how the evil Walmart is always the target, ignoring the fact that it was a plant making Loblaws line of clothing, or Canadian retailers are off limits?

And you solution would be what? Send these people home to starve and drive the business out of the country? Third world shit holes like Bangladesh are 100 years behind us, the way I see it industrialization is the first needed step into making this places somewhat decent to live in, but of course our bleeding hearts would rather see the nation remain dirt poor and hungry.

What kind of dream world you live in? Do you shop in any Loblaws stores? Ya know, those Superstores, Fortinos, No Frills...largest food retailer in the country? I hope it is not the case, would hate if you appeared as a hypocrite.

Edit: Oh, almost forgot, you can throw in recently acquired Shoppers Drug Mart, part of weston empire.

It is impossible to escape third world labour. Minimizing your slave intake is something you can do.

IF you were so concerned about the workers in those countries,...why not attack the governments in those countries.
And how are YOU going to decide what is fair living wages.

The companies buying from the contractors are NOT commiting human rights violations,...their own country is,...talk about being in another world !!!

Your telling me that companies can simply enforce standards,...and just what are the standards in those countries are we talking about ???
Your going to tell them to wear safety equipment,...what fricken safety equipment ???

Talk about living in another reality.

I PVR'ed the show. Interesting segment with ex Toronto guy that claimed he moved his stitching business to Bangladesh when business dried up here, shipped everything there by sea container. Claimed he was paying 3 times the minimum wage, hope it's true!

Walmart and Joe Fresh have the power to change pay rates and work conditions over there, they seem to have dropped the ball!
