I agree, even with reputable providers never send deposit. I have friends who have even been scammed by reputable providers.
I’m not sure if you were scammed that reputable is still valid, but I have found at least 3 copy cat accounts that were not actually them. One was Vegas, I had no idea it wasn’t actually her I was messaging with until someone posted an alert about it. I got lucky on the timing of that.
share with us the email she/he / they them asked for and the name that appeared after it says ( name of person/ company ) is set for autodeposit, most of the time I can tell the legitimicy based on the name that appears
