hey Aardie remember our recent discussion re lying cops? There is some development on it along the lines that you wisely predicted:
http://www.thespec.com/news/ontario...-seeks-public-report-on-cops-who-lie-in-court
The Toronto Police Services Board is becoming more open about how the force handles accusations that officers have lied under oath.

Police Chief Bill Blair has been directed to regularly report cases in which a judge has found that officers deceived or misled the court, through a public document released annually by the professional standards division.

The report will include a categorization of the comments made, steps the force has taken in response, and the resolutions reached.

There is still a lot of room to hide behind the blue wall, cops protect cops.

There is some truth to this feline, but it is not universal. Plenty of police have no time for those who abuse the trust placed in them.

We need to thank the Star here, they have been doing a pretty good job holding police accountable. IMHO this is better for Toronto AND all good and honorable police officers.

In some departments like the Toronto Police Service :: To Serve and Protect, they serve themselves and protect each other. They will not speak up against one of their own. if they do they will be shunned. There are departments that are changing and will speak up against one of their own officers. In Montreal there is a beast, Officer 728 : Stéfanie Trudeau She is now suspended and under investigation on several charges in several incidents. Other officers are testifying against her.

There is a simple solution to some of these situations. If there is a reasonable question that a cop has used excessive force, arrest and charge him. That is exactly what would happen to a civilian. If they lie under oath, same thing. Arrest and charge them. Why are the police exempt from arrest and charges if there are reasonable grounds?

Excellent point.
