There are three Durham hotels I use regularly for hobbying purposes.
The Holiday Inn in Oshawa will set you back about $160 a night (including taxes). It has a restaurant and room service, the latter available from 11:30am although the dinner menu is not available until 5:30pm. Be advised that the restaurant has a waitress who has started to ask a few too many questions for my comfort (just because in the last few months I have dined there with at least four different ladies, each less than half my age. Go figure.) The sixth and seventh floors are "secure" floors and can only be accessed with a key card. Smoking rooms are available. Most rooms have balconies. Unlike most other hotels with balconies, smoking does not appear to be prohibited on the balconies of non-smoking rooms. Available on the ground floor are rooms with sliding doors including rooms by the outdoor pool. Every room I've been in had a fridge but no microwave.
The Hilton Garden Inn in Ajax has several nice jacuzzi rooms at about $185 a night. The tubs can easily accommodate two people (although not next to each other) and, as I happily discovered last week, if you squeeze in tight enough even three people. This hotel is entirely non-smoking. It has a restaurant curiously located right by the lobby. People coming and going can watch you eat. Room service is available. Every room I recall had both a fridge and a microwave. The elevators are not easy to find and more than one lady I had invited to see me there has had to ask the front desk for directions.
The Holiday Inn Express in Whitby has two jacuzzi rooms, one a suite at about $260 a night. Both are non-smoking rooms but, unlike the Hilton in Ajax, they are on the ground floor, making it easy for your lady friend to go out for a quick smoke. Both a fridge and microwave in every room I've seen. The big disadvantage of this hotel is that it does not have a restaurant. Right across the street, however, are Kelseys and Swiss Chalet. The street, Consumers Drive, can be a bit tricky to cross since cars coming off the 401 tend not to stop for pedestrians, even when their crossing light is green. I've noticed, however, that this is only an issue when I attempt to cross alone. Cars do tend to stop when I am accompanied by someone like Savannah, Scarlett, or Chelsey. I must apply for a government grant to further research this phenomenon.
What I have been unable to locate anywhere in Durham is a jacuzzi room that is also a smoking room. Does anyone know of one?
