Hi there,

Looking for a software developer's opinion on the time/resources required to recreate a desktop application - basically a database/word processing hybrid using SQL & C++.

I can discuss further by PM - of course, if I need a full resource plan drawn up then I'll compensate you for the time and effort. Thanks!!!!

I won't get involved with any resource estimates for such a project, but the scope could easily range from a couple designers working for a few months to a team of dozens of developers working for several years.

Depends a lot on what sort of features you have in mind (every feature and piece of functionality takes time to scope out, understand, and develop), and if the features aren't well understood in advance then development choices could be made early on which would need to be re-done later at a great cost.

Good luck.

Dude,

Please get some sound advise from a trusted professional.

Why would you want to develop something from scratch? Most anything you'd ever need has been done and you could use off-the-shelf stacks.

Here's is a dime worth's of advise:

1. thick apps are dead
2. C++???? are you still living in the 90's?
3. SQL - see point number 2.

Also, software development based on requirements, features and test plans is so last century. Think about agile, sprints and stories.

Any "contractor" will tell you that you need to do custom development, sign a contract for 100s of thousands of dollars and that the project will take 8 to 12 months. that's *because*, they reel any sucker they can into a situation like that to make money.

I love every time I talk with "software/IT experts"

Good luck
