My Macbook crashed last night and I may not be able to resurrect it - it was kinda on fire. If that is the case I will be looking for a newish replacement at a decent price.

Any leads are appreciated :)

Probably ebay or if you need it quicker try factory direct. They may have some refurbished ones that won't cost you an arm, a leg and one butt cheek :)

Try the refurbished Macbook Pro or Macbook Air from apple store. It might be between $120-$180 cheaper.

I am not sure. I am have been thinking about changing to an Ultra book, but I am wondering how they are with viruses. I changed from a PC to a Mac a few years ago and enjoy the no virus aspect that goes along with Mac's. That said, the Ultra book appeals to me.

Whats better?

In the end I have to go with the cheapest option, as I do not have 1100 to spend on a MAc right now.

Go for a PC. If you protect your PC with a good Internet security then there's no way your PC will ever be infected with viruses. I'd recommend Surface 2 if you're considering ultra books. Surface 2 is 2-in-1: Ultrabook and tablet in one.

Surface 2 Pro starts at $900. Surface 2 (RT) starts at $449. I don't recommend any RT tablets/ultrabooks because of lack of app support. Futureshop has this laptop on sale. It's got pretty good specs:

The only downside with above laptop is its screen resolution which in practicality is so outdated. The rule with resolutions is that higher the resolution, higher the cost of the laptop.

If you're into Google products/service which I believe you're based on your email address then I'd recommend a Chromebook (google ultrabook). All apps in Chromebook will sync up with your Android phone/tablet. Bestbuy has one on sale for $200:

The above recommendations are based on the assumption that you need a machine for web surfing only! If you are looking into using any productivity software then recommendations will be different.

Wow, that a deal! What do you mean by productivity software? I generally use it for school assignments and internet surfing. Is it touch screen? The ad does not say, so I am assuming it is not.

Productivity software programs include: Microsoft Office, Adobe Master Collection, Video editing software, and other such software programs. Chromebook uses QuickOffice (which is Google's version of Microsoft Office). You can, however, use Microsoft Office 365 (cloud office) on Chromebook.

Oh, I definitely need MS Office. Plus looking at the add again, its only an 11.6 screen. I need at least a 13 inch for what I do. Sigh, I will just keep looking :)

In that case go for the ACER laptop that's on sale at Futureshop for $550. It's a great laptop comes with 2GB dedicated graphics card. It will certainly last you several years if you used with care lol i.e. no food drink spilling. Don't buy futureshop's extended warranty. It's a waste of money.
