Definitely interesting, at the 4:45 mark, you can see peddie mouthing the words as fletcher talks...is Fletcher just a puppet in this scenario for the rest of the year?

I cant say that I'm surprised by this. I'm sure before the press conf, they both went over the speech and what was going to be said.

I doubt it, I just think Peddie just has a problem with his mouth.
If you watch the whole thing for most of the PC his lips and mouth appeared to be trembling oddly.

On the other hand ... I've always thought there was something strange about Fletcher too. Looks and sounds kinda retarded or slow. But maybe that's how he used to get the best of an opponent in a deal.

You know, when Fletch was removed from the post in Phoenix, it was rumoured that he was NO LONGER COMPETENT. I didn't take the matter seriously because alot is rumoured around any event.

So, who knows... maybe there is a reason why Cliff only wants to have a temporary position. He is pretty old.

It's not a big deal that Peddie knew what Fletcher was going to say; that's standard practice at a major press conference. Fletcher read from a prepared text prepared by the PR staff. It's not that he's going to shoot from the hip; aside from answering questions from the press afterward. However, it's hilarious watching Peddie mouthing the words as Cliff speaks; the guy looks like a tool.
The biggest farce is hiring a fill-in GM; for the past year or so they knew that JFJ was dead in the water so when management pulled the trigger they should have had the replacement in place. How would you like to take the job if Fletcher starts screwing things up further?
Imagine this possible interview with a candidate:

Headhunters: "So what direction would you take the team in?"

Candidate: "Well, to start off with, the deadline trade of a first-round pick and Sundin to the Islanders for Chris Simon and future considerations probably is not the way I would have gone."

Essentially, if you're a top candidate keeping tabs on things and become frustrated with moves by Fletch in the interim, that might put a damper on your interest wouldn't it? Or maybe Fletch plays caretaker (which he is) and does nothing, so what did that accomplish? Hopefully he might be able to dump a few overpaid players to free up from cap space and rent Sundin out to some team for hopefully a first-round draft pick or a prospect, which would leave some flexibility for the new GM to build a team according to his vision.

i still think it's fucked that Peddie knew- word for word what was Cliff Fletcher's next word. He must have worked pretty hard on that speech to know it that well. (maybe that's why it took so long for MLSE to make a change)...

Fletcher IS a wacko! He's a wacko for coming to this city and having to deal with all this mania, and obsession, and fanatical scrutiny, not to mention childish conspiretorial accusations.

What kind of jobs do you guys have? Can you not imagine what Peddie's responsibilities are, who he deals with, who he's accountable to, what his priorities are, that you would believe that he NEEDS to memorize Fletcher's speech? Have you nothing else to think about?
