I gave the screenshort feature a try on a couple of homemade videos. Couple of problems. could not do a frame by frame advance and the screenshots are "png" and not "jpeg".linux mint 12 screenshots look interesting.
I think the default browser for Linux is FireFox. The core 2 is currently not connected to the Internet. I was taking screenshots of my own homemade videos and they were all png. What browser are you using?
Opera opens up 'png' and 'jpeg' files with no problems.
Just to be clear, I am referring to the Linux screenshots are that saved in png format and not jpeg format. I think that FF does open png file. It's strange FF doesn't open 'png' files which is mainly used in Linux.
I'm still very new to this Linux O/S. I notice that when I do a screenshot it is saved in png format, not sure if there is an option to change it to jpeg. Now that you mention png files, sometimes they are a pain and you need a browser to open them. To get around this I use 'gThumb Image Viewer' (available in the Ubuntu Software Center or Synaptic Package Manager) to convert png to jpegs.
gThumb Image Viewer will convert it to jpeg.I'm still very new to this Linux O/S. I notice that when I do a screenshot it is saved in png format, not sure if there is an option to change it to jpeg.
Ok, will give it a try.gThumb Image Viewer will convert it to jpeg.
Why do you "need" jpg?I'm still very new to this Linux O/S. I notice that when I do a screenshot it is saved in png format, not sure if there is an option to change it to jpeg.
Just in case I ever decide to do a print. Hasn't happened yet though. Why do you "need" jpg?
I felt the same when first using Linux. It was so different and I was used to doing things the Windows way. However Linux has programs and apps that will do everything Windows does. It is just a matter of using them and they work fine. Some use WINE on Linux that lets you run Windows stuff on Linux but I never bothered with WINE preferring to break away from M$ completely. Now I am proud and glad to be M$ and Apple FREE and it didn't cost me a penny...Ok, will give it a try.
As a long time Windows user, I use Media Player Classic (apparently this is not available in Linux) to capture stills from a video.
Tried it and it does convert png to jpeg. Thanks. BTW: My DVD player plays jpeg but not png.gThumb Image Viewer will convert it to jpeg.
