As someone who knows Lindros personally, I say it could not have happened to a nicer guy, the man and his brother are both tools. Doig ran him over and when lindros tried to get even it just got worse. This is his 8th concussion and if bad enough it will be the end of his career just like his brother. It is sad but as I said it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Thank god he is now not coming here the leafs would be crazy to take a chance on such a head case. (pun intended :D)

I met Alexei Yashin in a bar in Ottawa once. My first impression of him was that he was an asshole, mostly because he was a) richer; b) bigger and c) better looking than me.

I got over it. He's still an asshole though.

Before that game, I was thinking that the Capitals might not win for the remainder of the season. Seriously. Then, of course, the New York Rangers Travelling Sideshow rolled into town. And the rest, as they say, is history. Much like Lindros' season. ;)

(Yes, I know that game was *in* New York - but the metaphor worked better the other way. :) )

It was a clean hit delivered by a man physically smaller than Lindros himself. In the post game interviews Doig seemed apologetic, although I can't understand why.

A similar hit took place in the St. Louis - Atlanta game. One of the Thrashers was laid out in the face off circle with a devastating hit by the Blues defenceman who's name *eludes me at the moment.

*eludes = Fang doesn’t know how to spell his name correctly

Doig did seem very sorry he said he even tried to talk lindros out of fighting him before the faceoff, could have been though that he didn't want lindros taking his faceoff like thorton

Spelled as it sounds, but I'm not 100% sure on your pronunciation skills Fang.

You could almost see this concussion coming though. It was nice to see Lindros back in his old form over the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately old form means alnong with the fiesty play you get head down puck-carrying, skating through the middle, or wing in this case, and getting popped with a clean check.

Since he obviously can't play his best with confidence without risking concussions, it might be time to call it a career.

Yup. Whether he comes back or not, his best days are years behind him.

I dont think this was the knockout punch to Lindros...the fact he got up right away, then went to fight Doig means it wasnt that bad. If he laid on the ice like the team Stevens clocked him, then he'd be doners. I gather he'll return, is it the right choice? well no one knows

Best years behind him? He never and any great years in the NHL, his best years were in junior for the Oshawa Generals. Last nights hit was nothing but a good clean hit. Lindros is a big whinner, couldn't take it last year when he got hit by Doig, couldn't take it last night either. I must give kudos to Doig though for not, as Don Cherry says "turtling" and running away and hiding. Had no problem dropping the gloves.

theduke - He was a point-and-a-half per game player *in the NHL* for four years running. To say that he never had any great years in the NHL is utterly false.
the_big_E - Eric was clearly almost out on his feet when he chased after Doig - look at it again - no punches thrown, he just grabs him as his head lolls to the side. It was disturbing - a player who's so aggressive that his *instinct* isn't to get help, but to try to get even. Scary. They're describing the concussion as "mild", whatever the f*ck that means - I'd think, by the time you'd had your umpteenth concussion, that they wouldn't be describing the condition as anything but serious. Whether or not his health is good, Lindros just isn't the player he was. As the concussions have mounted, his play has diminished - even this year, on a terrible team, it was frankly only a bit above average for a player with his ice time. Again, if it was up to me, I'd pass in a New York minute.

It was a clean hit!

In Junior A hockey we had the 3 mississippi rule. If your staring at your skate laces for more than 3 mississippi's your asking for trouble. Guess Lindros didn't hear of that rule.

The hit Ott laid on Leschyshyn during the Stars vs Sens game I would be suprised if Ott doesn't get suspended. He skated across the rink at full tilt and hit Curtis from behind into the boards. That really could have been far worse than the 22 stiches that Curtis ended up getting.

Who in the hell coached Lindros when he was a kid learning hockey. I was taught to keep my head up. Eric skates stareing at his feet. He deserved to get hit.

Even if this concussion is classified as being minor. I still got think that minor concussions take there toll on the body. A little more damage each time. --- Kev

Actually, the Ott hit was clearly *not* from behind - it was from the side. Leschyshyn buried himself along the boards, his right side half turned away - an NHL player should protect himself better. I think the major was arguable, a suspension not called for.

We will then have to agree to disagree.

When you can see the guys numbers it is from behind. In fact, in Junior "A" hockey we were always told not to flash our numbers just in case some idiot like Ott did what he did!

Sorry I disagree with you, but I think the NHL will suspend him for charging ( skated across the ice full speed leaving his feet ) and yes hitting from behind.

Well, it's been two days, and he hasn't been suspended yet, so it looks like you're wrong.
Try not to be *too* much of a homer.
