I never understood his character, but in real life Rowan Atkinson is a very bright guy.
Maybe teaching these 4 these four lessons was his plan behind the character

I have a feeling that this was a third person interpretation of Mr Bean not Rowan Atkinson's view. The first lesson of never seeking friendship or relationships from anyone ? That was the lesson of Mr Bean ?

The magic of Mr Bean was the lack of language. Mr Bean was popular in asia with audiences that didn't speak a word of English. He reminded me of a modern version of the little tramp (Charlie Chaplin) , that is, an individual on his own having humorous adventures the audience can identify.

BTW: These are AI generated platitudes probably reflecting the illustrator's version of life. [ https://www.youtube.com/@VlogchainHamsterKombat ]

Years ago, when there was no such thing as an ATM, people had to line up to see a teller. My branch set up a monitor that played an endless loop of Mr. Bean to relieve the boredom of waiting.

Never could get into Mr. Bean, he was an urban version of Klem Kadiddlehopper. Rowan Atkinson also stole liberally from Peter Sellers, he probably wouldn't have a career if Sellers lived as long as Paul Newman. They were the same age.

I disagree completely. I enjoy Peter Sellers and the Pink Panther was a classic as is Shot in the Dark but Peter Sellers was verbal humour and pratfalls. As for humour in pratfalls, you can go back to the black & white Buster Keaton, Fatty Arbuckle, Harold Lloyd, Three Stooges, etc. If you couldn't get into Mr Bean but only Peter Sellers, I would argue that is a sign that the humour is different and is not related.

Inspector Clouseau was a humorous character in a movie plot inevitably sharing the scene with many other characters as part of a story line. Mr Bean was a single character and the plot was centred around him. I would suggest Bean follows in Chaplin's Little Tramp more than Peter Sellers.

That is not what he said. He said accept someone is not responding to you then move on.
Good advice

#1 'Never ask for friendship or relationships from anyone'

Maybe my YouTube is different, I listened to it three times and heard the above lesson 1.

Bad advice unless you like to live alone as a hermit. It is bad enough coming from the internet but some random AI generated platitudes is worse. Forget the old man stereotype - I would like a hot babe delivering life lessons. I wouldn't give it any additional merit but I would enjoy the image. 😋

Not what I heard.

'Never ask for friendship or relationships from anyone' does not mean do not accept or have relationships it means 'Never ask" when quality relationships come they will come with no demand

That being said. I can't watch fuckin Mr. Bean. Seems like a low brow sell out by Rowan Atkinson, who I came to know through the Black Adder series. Which was very well scripted comedy.
Seems that he went the Benny Hill route. Benny Hill had some hilarious "talkie" tv shows before he went silent. Including the original Dead Parrot sketch, stolen by John Cleese. Who pretends he never saw it. Everybody saw it.

There's too much Red Skelton in Mr. Bean, he's riffing on my childhood.

Tomayto, tomato If you ask a girl to dinner - you are seeking a relationship. Give me a f'n break. You are thinking of not begging for relationships/friendship and this was the #1 lesson ??? It's drivel.

I think Atkinson has always been good at both the physical pratfall stuff and the high-brow written stuff.
Most people prefer one or the other (I'm with you on Black Adder being more my speed).

I don't think it was selling out though, I think he just likes doing both.

Everyone has their own sense of humour and it is amazing how sensitive people get when defending what they like and they don't like. My mind must run in low brow gear (I've learned to live with it) but I liked Bean and his innovative approach to solving problems - which seemed relatable to mine.

My girlfriend in college loathed Monty Python. She not only could see no humour in it but had little tolerance for those watching it. She was hot and could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch. So I became a closet Python lover. Everyone has their own idea of funny.
