Do you want to impress the people outside the car or the people inside the car?

I have driven the Lexus IS 250 and the BMW 3 series cars.( I travel back and forth to work in 2 cities, and have both cars at my disposal ) The BMW has a harder suspension and more prestiege, but it has a cold hard interior. The Lexus has a very warm manly interior and a softer but sporty suspension. If you are nota speed freak then the Lexus will do the job well and will pamper your butt with a softer and much more luxurious ride. The BMW only preforms when you drive the car hard, in stop and go city traffic you will not get any of the benefits of the engineered suspension.
If you want to impress the guys, then get the BMW, the Lexus will impress the ladies. I am biased towards the Lexus, I can not imagine a more luxurious interior on a car for less than $50K, I have not seen a better one for less the $100K

I would think a BMW would impress both the ladies and guys. I don't think women can really judge that the IS is a status symbol. However, there is always the wow factor with a BMW, male or female.

I was in the same situation last fall BMW3 vs Lexus. I went with the BMW.
The BMW3 has a bit more space in the back seats and drives much better on the highway, agreed the interior comfort and "toys" are better with the Lexus but I enjoy driving a car a bit hard and therefore went the BMW route.

at the time of my purchase BMW had a better lease rate

Take a test drive in both. Tell me if you can find a better interior with leather and wood trim than the Lexus.

I had a 323is as a loaner the other day and it was nice. Lots of interior room for a small car and the comfort was there. Overall the ride was good, I never really pushed the throttle too much afterall it had the dealer name and number on the back window.

I never really considered one before but if I was in the market for a 4 door I would rate it high as an overall buy from my experience with it. I guess it was like taking a car for an overnight test drive.

IS look way more sporty, youthful looking. BMW is for old people, or young people who they are they cool with BMW. Just my opinion.

why the hell are you going to buy the car to impress the lady, how many can you get? 5? 10? 20? forget using the car to impress the lady, they wont just drop their pants because you have a 3-series lol.

If status is all you want, get the mercedes c-class.

Your right about the C-Class. My friend wants a C Class and I was thinking about going for that one too. But mercedes has that "car for old people" wrapped around it. Just as Honda Civic is for students. But some of the sporter mercedes models are awesome.

I would take the Lexus over the bimmer. IMO the Lex is more rare of a car. There's BMW's everywhere you look.

Now the new M3 thats a different animal:D

I love the looks of the Lexus but i also love the quality and performance of German engineering... i have two Audi's now myself and would highly recommend a german made vehicle. But get the 5 series there are 3s everywhere.

True, and most BMW's are only leased at that. I would bet 90 percent of them are leased.

I would go for the IS 350 as well because:

1. Styling, imho, the Lexus is a much better looking car.

2. Reliability, the Lexus wins hands down. BMW does not have a good reputation for quality.

3. Lexus actually holds its value better.

4. Price, the Lexus beats the BMW.

I would opt for the 350 over the 250. It's too bad Toyota can't seem to make a good AWD transmission. IMHO, the IS 350 needs to be an AWD vehicle. Toyota's AWD transmission has a so so record and can not handle the higher torque of the 350 motor and hence you can only get AWD in the 250.

Lexus IS250 Majorly under powered
Lexus IS350 priced to close to 3 series, only comes in automatic

Lexus IS has the worse rear leg room in class, why didn't they just make it a 2 seater???

3 series very ugly sedan, cheap looking interior, over priced, best performance in class, handling, sharp turns, breaking etc.

What i like about bmw is that they are giving you full warranty and the 3 year lease is cheaper than the 4 year lease.

Infiniti G35 best value, eats up the bmw in exterior looks and interior looks and quality, performace a tad bit under the 3 series but most people can't notice the difference. Has a lot of cool gadgets and loaded with technological features. Bang for the buck value. Not as prestigious as bmw or lexus but once you dive it, you'll fall in love with it. The G sedan is the clear winner.

If the g is out of the question, go for the 328I Coupe with the premium package and get a few other individual options.

would a corvette c6 impress women? or just attract rednecks =)
i dont know, i only see old men drive that kind of car. And they drive with their wives.

I say,if you want a car that attracts chicks, get one from the "fast and furious - tokyo drift" thats will IMPRESS the lady. (purchase is necessary, YMMV )
