Let's work together to get the gas prices down. This is a good one.

THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.00 PER LITRE.

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $ 1.50 a litre by this summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?

We need to take some intelligent, united action.
The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas ..

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $.99 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.29 at SUNOCO and ESSO for regular unleaded in Hamilton and Ottawa and climbing every week.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $.87 to .99, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), PETRO CANADA and ESSO.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of SUNOCO(PETRO CANADA) and ESSO gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers .
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!

(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician But I am .. so trust me on this one.

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we
can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from PETRO CANADA/ESSO UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $.79 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

The should just boycott one company. (Esso) It will only take one to ignite a gas war. And the goal should be staged. Once Petro Canada OR Esso drop their price to 1.28....they will sell every liter they have. Also, why target the biggest company. Target either Pioneer of Shell....much easier to hurt them.

Amazing how this tired gem keeps getting resurrected.

As long as motorists continue to buy the same amount of gas, the only people you will hurt with this are the station owners and their employees who have absolutely no say in the price at the pump.

Nope. I only buy at Esso, so I can get Aeroplan points. Good luck to you though

A complete and utter waste of your time
You will not get the concerted effort
I will show you why

This morning
I drove to the Costco and then later to Rona
Both stops took longer than I wanted.
I noticed on the way home I was low on gas so I filled up
I know that I have to drive across the city early this evening so I would not have time to stop for gas

When I need gas I buy it
I am not going to spend an extra 15 mins looking for a station that fits your criteria.
Because I know that the price of gasoline is tied to the price of oil which is a world wide commodity
The price of that commodity is determined by supply and demand and not at all influenced by my choice of station

If you don't like the price of gas - the best thing to do is drive less.

Take Transit.

Move closer to work.

Walk more

Buy a more fuel efficient car.

Car Pool.

EVeryting else is just bullshit.

Another thing
If you boycott Petro Canada & Esso, then you will probably need to fill up at Shell
Shell is huge company relative to Petro Canada, they are not going to play into your futile game

And another thing
The gas you buy at Shell probably came from a refinery owned by Petro Canada or by Imperial oil (or their parent Exxon)
Since the margins in the marketing end of the business (filling stations) are very thin , you will not be hurting either of them.

Your wasting your time

I suggest you read the book "The Prize" by Daniel Yurgin (spelling ?)
You may learn something about the industry and not get so bent out of shape when prices change (you have not seen anything yet !!!)

People have their favorite gas companies due to incentives and preconceived notions on quality etc. Any type of boycotting action on a large scale always fails especially in Canada where it's impossible to get people on one page and to stick together for a common cause especially where their might be personal preferences and inconveniences and varying degrees of indifference.

Plus we are not dealing with a homogeneous population in that the haves couldn't care less about the have nots and are not deterred by rising gas prices as they continue to buy gas guzzlers and gladly pay the higher gas prices, luxury taxes etc to live the lifestyle they could afford to,uplift their status, look down on others etc.

Again too people have different tolerance levels in what they are willing to put up with and while it is OK for one person to take public transit or drive a cheap fuel efficient car, it's completely beneath others who wish to maintain a certain lifestyle.

There's a reason they say things like "different strokes for different folks" and "to each his own".

So everyone boycotts Company A and only buys from Company B. That means Company B will run out of gas quite quickly. Where do you think Company B is going to find surplus gas to buy? From Company A, possibly at a higher than market price since they are competitors.
So you set out to hurt Company A, but really indirectly dropped more $$$ into their pockets.
