Within a year LED lamps are expected to hit the market. A 1-4W LED LAmp will produce as much light as a 40 -60 W edison lamp. The LED lamps are especially suitable for directional lighting.

Just when the government gets around to legislating compact flourescents engineers come up with something better. Bet you in ten years the Government will make compact flourescents illegal!

As is Denmarks.....

The Danish economy has in recent years undergone strong expansion fueled primarily by private consumption growth, but also supported by exports and investments. This thoroughly modern market economy features high-tech agriculture, up-to-date small-scale and corporate industry, extensive government welfare measures, comfortable living standards, a stable currency, and high dependence on foreign trade. Unemployment is low and capacity constraints are limiting growth potential......

Denmark cannot print money, and therefore imports have to be
paid by exports. No automobile industry in Denmark.

Fluorescents contain mercury how will they safely dispose of them?
Mercury positing is not funny I would rather them use the old bulbs

If the average house changes all bulbs to CF....they will save about $50/year on energy......
Problem is it will cost you about $250 to change all your bulbs...and eliminate all dimmers....because CF' do not work on dimmers...unless you buy the real expensive CF's.
Now if you change to LED's and they are available for all types of fixtures..again problem of dimmers.....but you could have every light on in your house and it would use no more elctricity that a 60W bulb......
Now yes the initial cost of LED bulbs are very high..give it time they will drop....but the best is...you buy one LED bulb it will last 100,000 hrs...compared to about 500 hrs with a CF.....less bulbs to buy lots of money saved and no chemicals to worry about

Hi,

Wanna bet they invent a way to make LED's last only 500 hours? Oh I know I'm such a cynic!!!!!

Yup,

In California there is already a law forcing recycling of old flourescent lamps. So when you think about it the LED's when they come will be a lot cheaper because they don't need special handling.
