Leafs
The acquisition of Leetch makes Kaberle effectively redundant. Don't get me wrong, Leetch is a great player and a good pickup in short term but he is not the physical player the Leafs need on the back end. Kaberle is afraid of his shadow. I can't belief how easy a ride he gets from the Toronto media and the Leaf nation. The give away Saturday against Buffalo is not unusual against teams that forecheck hard. The idea of McCabe being the big physical guy was lost by the thrashing he took from Chara and Joe Thornton. Besides you don't want a top pairing d-man sitting for fighting. Klle is a solid #4 or 5 D-man. Berehowsky has proven his worth. How many think that is a great trade now? I don't see any hands. Berg is a bonehead who makes too many mistakes. Pilar, I like as a depth guy. Finally, Marchment. Despite Cherry's rant, the guy cannot play regularly aginst good teams that can skate. You can count the big hits he's had this season on one hand. His absolutely stupid penalties make him a serious liability come playoffs. Getting Leetch was a good start, but they need at least one more. Hill DeVries Carney are still there.
But, it won't matter if they don't get Eddie some help. Can you honestly expect him to play another 22-25 high pressure, intense games if they go to the final without needing some rest? Giving away a single game in any series, could eb the difference between winning a losing.
This is like being pregnant. The Leafs have made a committment to winning now. They've traded big chucks of the future to put this team on the ice. It is too late to go back and change that. So, in my opinion if it takes Kaberle, Coliacgivo and others to acquire the remaining pieces to the puzzle, they should go for it. The chance comes around only so often and, in this case the window may well close this season.
