Pope John Paul I was possibly killed for wanting to break the unwritten law. Pope Francis only went half way.

He died shortly after meeting JD Vance. I suspect poisoned tea.

I understand that Republicans are suggesting that Trump be given a cardinal's seat and then nominated as the next Pope. As part of the deal, the Sistine Chapel ceiling will be dismantled and transported to Mar-a-Lago and improved with tasteful gold spray paint in chosen parts of the painting.

You should charge Donald some sort of fee...why let him live rent free in your head?

To be clear , Pope Francis was 90 years old, cant walk, barely talk, dementia , no energy, cant dress himself but one of the worlds most influential men in charge of an extremely rich powerful corporation stays in power because God chose him as the 'Vicar of Christ' to "Feed my lambs . . . Take care of my sheep."

According to Catholic reasoning, Peter the Prince of the Apostles, was the first pope, and fulfills the words of Jesus calling Peter the rock upon which Jesus will build His church and the Pope is in direct line to Peter.
There is noithing biblical about that believe, indeed a lot of Cathoilic beliefs are made up by the Vatican "thinking" about it

What I wonder is the Cardinals say God directs them to chose the Pope but how does that go down?

They prayed , no doubt, then WTF did God do? Where they using a Ouija board? Why
is using a Ouija any stranger than the method of how they do chose the Pope which is what?

I guess that is a little secret

I am fine with calling Catholic a religion not a cult.
I hold all established organized religions with basic
respect. The one thing about the Catholic faith I loath
most is the ridiculousness of making both the Easter
Friday and Monday a statutory holiday. One day
of celebration of the superstition of crucifixion is
nauseating enough.

Easter Monday holiday was just an excuse for government employees to get another paid day off.

They vote on it...a lot of politics goes into Religion....so the term separation of church and state is BS...they always intertwine...be it Islam, Catholic or any other dominant religion.

Its not about celebration.
Its a day off for people.
If you are such an eager beaver to get to work, go right on ahead.

Largest Cult would be Islam by your definition......
Christianity: Approximately 2.6 billion adherents, accounting for about 31.7% of the global population.

Islam: Approximately 2.04 billion adherents, representing over 25% of the global population.

I am not eager to get to work and I am happy to have
a day off. I am just pissed off because some services I need
are not available. How would you feel if you fell sick on
Thursday night and was unable to book an appointment
with your family doctor until Monday or Tuesday?

You missed my point.

I know they vote and the politics are there but still how do they recieve the divine inspiration?

Is it a thought? a mysterious knowing? a feeling ? does Mother Mary come to them?
Yoiu may consider it all BS but they do not !

Seriously, they must have some methodology, even if they are fooling themselves .

My deep wonder is what the experience of receiving divine inspiration is like?

My guess it is just an arbitrary thought, like all other thoughts

What if a cardinal does not receive divine inspiration , does he recuse himself?

I'd go to the ER, or search for an open walk in clinic.

there is no spiritual being that annoints these individuals...like I said...whoever gets the most votes...they have several factions within the Vatican too.
