Police sources told Radio-Canada that the allegation involves an incident that happened on June 14. Duplessis allegedly requested the service of a prostitute, who went to his chalet accompanied by a female driver. One of the two women recognized him, and Duplessis allegedly cancelled the encounter without paying them.

The women insisted on being paid and made three attempts to collect the money.

Duplessis filed a complaint with Quebec provincial police, a fact he confirmed this morning without addressing the details or circumstances or relationship he had with the accused.

He also said an arrest had been made in the case.

Duplessis said he will not resign in the wake of the latest scandal at Laval city hall, which has been plagued by corruption investigation raids and resignations in recent months.

Exactly, it was buddy who caused the trouble.

His mistake was not doing an incall.

How do we know that he did not pay her? Maybe he did pay but since she knew who he was she attempted to extort him knowing he wouldn't want to be front page. Maybe he refused extra $$$ demanded by her to keep quiet. Cynical and speculative but not unreasonable.

Either way, what he did was stupid and he's paying the consequences for it.

Most people didn't have an issue with him booking an escort. They considered that it was a private matter.

Just as I thought, booking an escort is a private matter that wasn't an issue with most people in Montreal, Quebec. Other politicians have had sex scandals and have made come backs (see some examples below) and so will he if he wants.

Mark Sanford came all the way back to the U.S. House of representatives on May 7, 2013. Anthony Weiner could be the next mayor of NYC despite those photos to young ladies. Elliott Spitzer could probably also come back if he wanted.

I was watching the local french news coverage in Montreal about this yesterday. What people were angry about when asked about it, was that he awkwardly tried to cover it up, and lied about the whole thing when he was confronted by the media, even though there was clear evidence (the text messages).

Most people didn't have an issue with him booking an escort. They considered that it was a private matter.

This seems to be the standard Montreal attitude towards escorting. It's almost respectable up there.
